Now that dexterity does matter and not always the most heavier armor is the best for all the characters (specially for those nimble characters that are likely to be using light armor) I propose adding the same functionality to leathermaking that has armorsmithing.
A character with leathermaking should be able to choose to create from the same piece of tanned hide armor, a piece of:
-Padded Armor
-Light Armor
-Studded Armor
-Hide armor
Is it possible, are they any difficulties?
I would appreciate some input in this since I would be willing to design all the leather armor pieces necessary to make possible this change.

Leathermaking skill should already allow the player to create either leather armour or hide armour.
Either this is something lost to all but the trade anoraks or it was changed, though I don't recall that happening.
Basically, use an untanned skin and you get hide armour, use a tanned skin and you get leather armour.
I've suggested in the past that tanned hide plus piece(s) of metal could allow the making of studded leather armour. That might be something to look at again.
Padded armour I would expect to fall within the cloth-working trade, which may or may not have been coded, but definitely has not yet been implemented.
Bear in mind with all trade ideas that the code used for this part of the game is very clunky and convoluted (Mask phrased it more technically thatn that, but I think that's what he meant) and overdue for a revamp.
