Improved Initiative - how does it translate from d20?

d20srd wrote:Initiative Checks

At the start of a battle, each combatant makes an initiative check. An initiative check is a Dexterity check. Each character applies his or her Dexterity modifier to the roll. Characters act in order, counting down from highest result to lowest. In every round that follows, the characters act in the same order (unless a character takes an action that results in his or her initiative changing; see Special Initiative Actions).

If two or more combatants have the same initiative check result, the combatants who are tied act in order of total initiative modifier (highest first). If there is still a tie, the tied characters should roll again to determine which one of them goes before the other.
However, since combat in FK starts by a PC typing kill or a mob attacking first, it doesn't seem that that would apply.

Is initiative coded? If so, what does improved initiative do and how does this affect combat?

If not, is there some sort of lag during combat? And does this feat reduce this lag?

If neither of the above is true, what, if anything, does it do?

I can't actually say, but there are some of my more powerful buddies who swear by it. From what I understand (according to what they explained to me) it reduces lag when affected by combat skills. For instance, someone who has improved initiative can grab their weapon and re-wield it much faster (after being disarmed) than one without the feat.

I may have gotten bad information here, but it's what I was explained.

Hope it helps.

Thanks, Selveem. Bump to see if anyone familiar with the code knows what this formally does...

I always thought that the first person to attack in combat, if they have improved initiative, gets a few extra strikes before the enemy joins in. That is why alot of people say attacking first in pk is an advantage.
