Aasimar decendent of Lathander

Post by Briek » Sun Oct 19, 2008 6:12 pm

i am working on making an Aasimar priest and would like to know the rules and such of creating one as a desendent of a Deity or one of his minions, also if this is possible i would like to know where Lathander went in the time of troubles so i begin to build up a background for this character and what the rules are concerning special features of the Aasimar, of course i am looking for this Aasimar to be dwarn to the morninglords faith aswell so any information anyone can give me on how to best implement that aswell would be great.

thanks alot guys

First know that you can't claim be a descendent of any deity unless you apply for it first, and I'm not sure even if it is sure having the ok for RPing such special character even if you apply for it, most aasimar come from servants of the gods though, so I would apply for such character before drafting that character.

would you happen to know of some of the common servants of Lathander and i would have to come up with a pretty good rp reason for being so yes?

The most common kind of Aasimar is one descendant from a god - but you'd have to do some research on the gods that walked among men in Unther and Mulhorand. Keep in mind that being an aasimar whose line is of a gods, isn't particularly of note. It'd be impressive that you can somehow trace it back with certainty, but otherwise it doesn't really single out an aasimar as better than another.

They're nothing more than beings who have ancestors who slept with someone extraplanar (in this case, a goodly being)...regardless of the power of the outsider.
Listen up! People pay good money to see this movie! When they go out to a theater they want cold sodas, hot popcorn, and no monsters in the projection booth! Do I have to come up there myself? Do you think the Gremsters can stand up to the Hulkster?

yeah i realise that but i really wanted it to tie in to how he could be drawn to Lathanders faith and how he is not aware of his heritage untill this happens, so for example his special feature could be that he was born with Lathanders symbol as a birth mark or something, i am sure also that there are many lesser dieties or celesital minions under Lathander at i could use?

I think maybe you're trying to add another prophecy like aspect to a character that is, by the nature of his very race, already incredibly unique. If you want him to think his great great great grandfather was Lathander just roleplay that your mother told you that. Whether it's true or not doesn't really matter.

This got me thinking... well, this and a new character I am trying out. Outside of deities, is there a limit to what outsider a plane-touched can be from without application? Not asking about specific named beings from source books, granted. But, are there restrictions on type of demon, devil, ect your plane-touch can claim heritage too?

The best guidelines I can think of are usually the ones found in the helpfiles.

If you are going to rp something that you could apply for, you should apply for it. Usually if it is something minor it will be approved unless it is inappropriate. Either way, an explanation will be given.

You should not give yourself any abilities your character would not have without code involved.

Applications for special rp's are welcome. Even encouraged, because a lot of the time they let the imms know that you are doing such and such role play and they will not be surprised or put off. Not everything has to be applied for, I could not list the things you do not have to apply for, because it is a long list. But I can surmise it never hurts to apply at all.

In this case though, I'd recommend an application. My reasoning is that you are going to rp as a descendant of an actively played character imm, it would be fine to let them know the history or situation of the life of the character. A simple email explaining such allows them to know about the unique rp experience. Its better than the forums, because you can go into detail about rp elements.
May you find the knowledge you seek. If you find something else, it is still knowledge, and as such, still a gain.

Didn't think it would be a problem, but was curious if there was some race of outsiders off-limits without applications (yochlols for example). Definately would have applied if I even had a passing thought about named outsider heritage or giving my character any special ability. One of my recent venture is a tiefling of a rather odd decent, so it got me thinking.

Its not required, it just seems like a good thing to do in this situation.

Mostly I watch out for really obvious issues.

Like elves with wings in their description, humans with flaming eyes, reverse drow, etc.

wouldn't giving your character wings technically giving them an ability that would have to be coded in? i mean wings are pretty useless if you can't fly.

Its more about the example. Elves don't have wings, only avariel elves do and they are not yet in the game and will cost kismet. If you go ahead and give your elf an description like 'winged male elf' You've gone around this and introduced something outside of current policy:

Code: Select all

Special Powers
==============
While it is tempting for players to invent for their characters
"special powers" to help them stand out in roleplay, such roleplay
may see characters in competition with one another for the most
outrageous or the most interesting "special power", to the detriment
of roleplay.

The policy on special powers is as follows:

Your powers are limited to those that are assigned to your race.
Aquiring greater powers is a matter for the gods, either as:

* as a part of role-play with direct deity intervention
(ie, you get your special power given to you)

OR

* with the Admin's ok as part of a role play plot (ie, you role-play
that you've got magical powers outside the norm without
  actually having them coded.

Characters claiming "special powers" without falling into one
of the above categories will be in breach of this policy.

To apply for a special character or roleplay email a detailed application
to fkapplications@lists.skynet.ie. Please be aware that any
approved application is likely to have a kismet cost.
Once again, by confirming or applying you express your desire to roleplay the option. You have both a chance of it being approved or disapproved depending on the nature of the application. In the case of a winged elf, it would most likely be subject to changes and roleplay or even a kismet cost depending on its affect on the mud.
May you find the knowledge you seek. If you find something else, it is still knowledge, and as such, still a gain.

Doing double backflips off a building while your body is covered in green elven fire? :D
Glim asks Gwain 'Can I be on the watch?!?'
Gwain raises an eyebrow.
Gwain seems to display a look of complete horror for a second...
