[COMMAND] New actions like 'plant' and 'lean'

Post by Modarick » Sat Dec 13, 2008 9:13 pm

When I first thought this up I was unaware of the thief's plant skill. I don't know what other words might work for this action, so suggestions are welcome. For now I'll just use plant in each instance the word is needed.

I think it would be cool to be able to prop items up in areas where the ground could ICly be considered soft enough. An example would be thrusting the blade of a weapon into the ground (and now that I think about it, some walls) where it can be left to support itself.

'Leaning' was another idea I had. It is seen in poses all the time, but wouldn't it be nice if that action could be coded as a form of rest? It wouldn't be as restful as sitting and sleeping, but certainly more so than self-supported standing.

These ideas are mainly for RP uses. Some characters may not feel completely comfortable sitting down in whatever area they are in (Waterdeep sewers for instance) and others might like to lean against there planted weapon. I've also seen a player leaning against his staff in a pose before. In those cases the lean command could actually be used and covered up by the pose. There are different tweaks and quirks that could be figured out and added but this was just an idea I thought I'd shared.

Situations like a stronger character planting a weapon into a harder surface could be added and such items could only be retrieved by a character of equal or greater strength (Luck could be a factor). Maybe you could rest your helmet or cloak on a planted weapon/stake/pole/etc so that it didn't get dirty. Different stuff like that would be fun and interesting to me.

Just to help a little, 'rest' command isn't necessarily sitting. Selveem rests often, by propping himself against walls and the like after sustaining heavy injuries.
