Identical short descriptions

Post by Enig » Wed Jul 29, 2009 3:53 am

Just a quick little suggestion, based on something that I've considered a bit of a problem! Anyways, I think it'd be great if any two PCs with identical short descriptions are in the same room as one another they were automatically given an extra keyword so people could latch on to them, something like, for instance...

"A short, fat, tall, thin, curly-haired, bald man is here." ... followed by!
"A short, fat, tall, thin, curly-haired, bald man (v.2) is here."

The benefit of this is that it would allow people who don't actually have the two PCs greeted to single them out for smotes and saytos, or, in general, to understand when one is talking/acting and the other isn't. At the moment it doesn't really seem like there's any way to match saytos/smotes to one person or the other. ie.

A short, fat, tall, thin, curly-haired man, bald man is here.
A short, fat, tall, thin, curly-haired man, bald man is here.

A short, fat, tall, thin, curly-haired man, bald man says to you, "I hate you."
A short, fat, tall, thin, curly-haired man, bald man says to you, "I love you."

Any guesses who said what? Yeah. :P

I think this is a great suggestion, Enig. Does the problem arise reasonably often, though?

Hmmmm...

A young, male human is here.
Another young, male human is here.
A third young, male human is here.

I've came across this problem just last night! :) And a bit frequently before then, too.
Sometimes, it can be twins with the same short descriptions, sometimes
newly made characters, which have yet to set their adj, and sometimes just a coincidence
that two people have their short descriptions the same. I think this is a -great- idea Enig! =)

In character, you could totally know the difference between Bob and Ben, but they haven't
greeted you - and they do happen to have the same adjective. It can be sort of awkward,
attempting to distinguish who did and said what. Pretty much like Enig's example.

If it was set up as, Lathander suggested
A young, male human is here.
Another young, male human is here.
A third young, male human is here.
Would it then be -

A young, male human smiles at you.
Another young, male human frowns at you.
A third young, male human waves at you.

Something like that? =)
