Improved Parry
Improved Parry
With this feat, a character can opt for a fully defensive mode of combat, choosing to defend himself agaisnt incoming enemy blows instead of striking at the enemy himself.
By the title of Improved Parry, it suggest that this s a fighter only feat. I would love to see something similar for all class.
Expertis currently adds to yur AC at a sacrifice of THACO (to my understanding). How about an Improved Expertise, where, when activate through a combatmode, each attack you have is instead turned into a parry chance with the chance of activation being equal to your skill level in that attack.
For eg. If a priest with Grandmaster 2nd and adept 3rd was fighting this way, the activate chance for the first two normal attacks would both be successful (that does not mean the parry would be, but it should have a greater chance).
Unfortunately the drawback to this, and all defencive skills (and I can't think of a way round it off the top of my head), is that a person with a welll trained char can quite easily tank for a group of newbies/friends. While this does already happen, its not that easy when you have to take damage (the best way to tank is always not to hurt the mob and not to take damage - thereby allowing the newbie/friend to get the maximum training/exp).
Hope this helps add to the discussion though I don't mean to take anything from LLanthyrs original idea.

Well, to give a lil back ground in this skill lemme explain as per D&D rules:
For each attack made sucessfully, while in parry mode, the PC makes a parry.
EG: A person whom gets 4 attacks per round can PARRY someone whom gets 3 attacks per round successfully (roll vs. success AND roll vs. parry) and still end up with 1 attack (though there is dodge, AC, etc.)
And this is in parry mode. Without parry mode, there is no parry =D
Just givin two diabolical cents.

Actually, as per 3E there is no parry. There are stances, being normal, defensive (-4 to hit I believe, +2 AC) and full defensive, where you cannot attack at all but get +4 to AC. These should probably be added as combatmodes rather than as feats (although defensive is already there, just no full defensive.) Expertise is merely a feat to increase AC with the wisdom/intelligence bonus (forget which one it is) and I believe there is actually an improved expertise out there in one of the books. I have all of them and I'll get to digging through.

Currently, nofight is simply a way to not auto-respond to an attack. I believe it was created for more RP battles, such as if you wanted to smote takes his dagger and stabs x in the face, you can do so and the other player can respond without the code interupting.
And a note on my last post, I think I messed up the explanation That's what I get for playin NWN and not readin the instructions

Thats the way it goes in NWN, but as for actual D&D, I dont think I can think of a parry mode...

Whew, that sounds like some fancy parrying... O.O
Anywho, I like this idea. I've said it on numerous threads but IMO the parry skill does not get nearly enough use as it should and this looks like a fair way for it to be put into action, also, it would have more people using the different stances for fighting.
