When this putrid spell is unleashed, the target succumbs to magical sickness and decay, requiring immediate treatment or steadily getting worse. A putrefied body-part would wither and begin to rot spilling toxins into healthy tissue, continuing to poison the body unless treated.
While afflicted the target gets a putrefaction echo, damaging the body randomly (limbs, chest, head, etc.) Not harming the HP directly, but continuing to wither and rot the body. When a part gets critically injured, it is considered so thoroughly withered that it is liable to just fall off (severed with the putrefaction echo.)
This is a nasty if slow spell, continually plaguing the victim, and eventually fatal if not treated. (Bleeding out from the rotted off limbs or a critically injured head.)
Cure spells and regeneration could temporarily stave this off.
A cure putrefaction spell or Heal spell would remove the affect.
