Lore

I was just wondering if there were any plans in the works for a lore skill.
You know, where you can identify items, without having to cast an identify spell? It's a handy skill, and would be a good addition to wizards and rogues skill lists.

Interesting idea...

Personally, I'd rather leave ID to bards and wizards. Encourages RP :)

Another tact to take on a "lore" ability is to have it work thusly:

If a character succeeds in a lore check, they are able to successfully glean some sort of idea as to the origin of the item. For example, Bob the wizard draws upon his extensive knowledge of all things and studies a rare wand he finds. Upon contemplation, the wand appears to be made of a wood that only grows in the Cormanthor forest, thus leading him to believe it is of elven make. The gemstones used in its construction are commonplace, but the particular inclusions in them are particular to the Snowflake mountains. etc.etc.

Now, there may be items that a successful check couldn't give more than "It looks like a typical common longsword" or whatever. Other items might have multiple layers of information that could be obtained based upon proficiency, level, and attempts.

This way, the ability doesn't "identify" it in the traditional sense, but gives insight into its creation, ethnic origin, geographical appropriateness, etc. Those aspects less tied to divination, and moreso on knowledge.

Just some thoughts on the matter.

WOAH there! I'm no immortal here, in fact, I'm still pretty new (to FK) but I have built muds, and my best friend and I are currently writing a code-base from scratch, and let me tell you...heh...what you suggest would ROCK! but it would take about a year's worth of building, and about a month's worth of coding, and could very well give someone a heart attack...that being stated, my opinion for Lore is:

Good idea, lots of possibilites...keep coming up with good ideas...maybe I'll even have one ;)
