Just an idea coming from the Craft Q&A thread.
Would it not be nice to be able to examine an item on someone?
Not everything can be seen in a short description, and some items deserves to be able to be examined by other peoples.
That would add to roleplay also being able to show something by holding it instead of handing it over.
Perhaps an echo can randomly be seen (based on the sneak skill for discretion?), like "Brar is looking closer to Loren's chestpiece."
It is already working for shopkeepers, is it hard to do it for items on people?

I might have gone mad, but can't rogues already do this?

... Need to check that with my bard, if they can then it's probably tied to the peek skill. But being able to see what you have in inventory is for me the point of peek, being able to examine items should be available to anyone no?

Oh, sorry. I posted in the other thread. But yeah, I'm fairly certain they can.

I don't think it's very IC to be able to closely inspect an item that someone is wearing. The information you get from examine isn't something you can tell just from looking at a distance. Unless you happen to know that person well, most people wouldn't take too kindly to a stranger coming up to them and touching their clothes to get a feel for them.

Re: Examine items on people
I absolutly agree with lirith. I was only thinking of the long desc part of the examine command.
Another version of that suggestion then. Why not make peek a passive skill like haggle?

Well... the difference I would see between rogues and others is that rogues could do it discretly (without echoes).
It would be only possible to see the shown equiped items, not all equiped (under layer and such).
It doesn't seems strange to me, when you look at someone, to see the long desc of the items he wears without having to come too close and touch the items. You would just spend a moment looking at the items (with the echo saying so)
ex :
'an embossed girth'
Its long desc is
'It is embossed with the symbols of a giantkin deity.'
'bright beard ribbons'
long desc
'Colorful ribbons of cloth, dyed and tied into the hair of the
beard, these fluttering pendants speak of battle prowess, virility,
and wealth, with their colorful fluttering attracting the eyes of
others to those who wear them.'
Long description give information everyone can easily see.
I would say material, armor type (full plate, ...) and size are easily seen information too.
I think that would be a great addition to rp.
The cloths we chose for our characters have much more to be seen than the 17 or so short desc lines others can see. Others would see our character outfit how it really is (and how we wanted it).
