Glowing items and Hiding

Post by Brar » Fri Oct 08, 2010 3:23 pm

Another idea.

Shouldn't glowing items nullifies hiding? or at least hinders it.
I think it is far more difficult to hide with big glowing items than without them...
I laugh everytime I see someone hiding with a glowing ball of light floating around them...

Hinder, perhaps. Honestly, I think it should depend on the wear location. If it's just a glowing ring or necklace, it can easily be covered by its owner. A floating ball could be, as well. People do it because they don't have darkvision and cannot see while hiding in the dark without it. Personally speaking, I don't think that's a valid excuse to do it, but simply the thought process behind it.

Well, if it glows enough to light the room. I would assume it is enough to give you away.
You can easily enough hide it with the "remove" command. Items in inventory should not count for this purpose for balance facility.
And if you can't see in the dark then too bad for you but you should try option, spells or other discrete means no?
Seems almost code abuse in a certain way to me.

Realistically you could not hide (that is hide yourself from sight completely) with a glowing object worn. You could probably still hide by blending in with a crowd (think Assassin's Creed), but not by concealing yourself.

The question now is: do we care enough to make this an issue and why should it be one?

Well, we could care because it is far different to have to rely on spells and potions to be able to sneak on someone and gives a real meaning to darkvision, I would give my soul for my ranger to have darkvision :P

But it is nothing more than a suggestion :)

it would only make complete sense if glowing items only gave you away in dark rooms when no one else is wearing glowing items...

which conveniently never actually happens in the real game unless you are trying to sneak up on the few PCs that rely on darkvision completely.
