Stat spell component comparison
Stat spell component comparison
I can't help it. When someone asks something I cannot answer, I must find the answer...
The question at hand: Why is 'mnemonic enhancer' harder to cast than any other stat spell?
Details: It is the only stat spell that has 2 components.
Trollish vigor: 1
Bulls strength: 1
Slink: 1
Mnemonic Enhancer: 2, both eventually used up during casting.
Sagacity: 1
Friends: 1
Good Fortune: 2, but neither are used up during casting.
I never thought about it til this conversation, but it is an interesting question. Thoughts, anyone?

Re: Stat spell component comparison
Don't wizards cast it in order to memorize extra spells? Perhaps that's why?
Re: Stat spell component comparison
It's a fair question:
Bull's Strength
Friends
Mnemonic Enhancer
Sagacity
Slink
To be fairer, still: as mentioned in another thread (or multiple) by the great Selveem, a component pouch is supposed to be considered to have an infinite supply of such mundane components.

Same could be said of Sagacity and priests, yet it only requires 1.Raona wrote:Don't wizards cast it in order to memorize extra spells? Perhaps that's why?
Not a big deal or anything. Just one of those random questions that pop up.

Re: Stat spell component comparison
Well, it is readily enough changed. Unless someone can offer a reason for why it is so, I'll likely change it to make it so that the components are not used up. (Or should they all be made to consume components, instead?)

Re: Stat spell component comparison
If you change those, maybe change also the mass versions.
Or perhaps make the single target version on focus and let the mass version on using components? Could be fun

Re: Stat spell component comparison
I'd either make the standard versions not get used up/ or have the ones the get used up in one go given considerable more spend time. And have the mass versions get used up much more quickly, drawing out more of the component than for the standard spells?

Re: Stat spell component comparison
Well, as already told in another thread, I'm up for reducing the component grinding time in game for standard spells so I'm up for making component unused for standard stat buff spells.
Maybe several uses per component for mass version.

Re: Stat spell component comparison
Mass versions should be more taxing than the basic form, in my opinion at least, so I would leave the mass versions as is. Far as the single spell, I would suggest either...
1. Remove one of the components so it matches similar 'stat spell' requirements.
2. Make current components not used up (glows briefly).
I lean more towards the first choice, since it falls in line better with sagacity's setup for priests. But ultimately, either choice works.

Re: Stat spell component comparison
It already is more taxing. The Mass versions of those spells are, what, four spell levels higher than the single target versions? That is a huge difference in the amount of energy being expended. For the same cost, you could have Extended and Maximized (assuming that worked on these spells) your spell instead of just having it affect a couple more people.Nysan wrote:Mass versions should be more taxing than the basic form, in my opinion at least, so I would leave the mass versions as is.
I might be in the minority here, but I think that kind of increase in casting power, energy, finesse, and expertise, which can only be demonstrated by a considerably higher level caster (almost four times as many levels), could maybe also result in knowing how to make your components last. I'd hate to think that the low level wizard sloppily casting the same stat boosing spell eight times would get better milage from his components than the insanely powerful archmage who has unwound the very fabric of the universe (and found it wanting) only casting one spell.

Re: Stat spell component comparison
Considering that mass version let you buff all your party with the same component as the single target version, it's already far less costly than the low level version...
I mean, it let me gives bull strenght to 10 peoples with 1 spell slot and 1 cast of components instead of having to use 10 spell slot and 10 components for the same result.
It's already a blast
