Enchant spell suggestion

Post by Stayne » Tue Apr 27, 2004 2:37 pm

Hi all -

This thought came upon me when I was designing a quest for the quest competition, and while I had this idea to save Sharni coding work and to give the player something more faith orientated or special to them with minimal work, it could also quite easily apply to ay other area for a quest reward that would save VNUM's if you have used them all (as I have gotten close to in my latest area).

It was based on the spell enchant weapon (and assuming it works similar, could be applied to enchant armour when it is coded in).
The idea was that if the enchantment is permenant. The MOB of the quest could say something like:
"You are a true servant of <insert faith name here>. Bring me a weapon from the temple and I shall make it more powerful for you"
The player then gets to choose one a weapon that would suit their char, and it is named in the temple style thereby giving them a fairly unique weapon.
It could even be used on any weapon by doing a check for no 'flag_magic' beforehand (though I would prefer to limit it to faiths only - an encourage PC's to do their own via other means).
The idea came about as that in many cases we might code up 4-5 magic weapons then give them one at random, or one based on their class, most of the time this does not suit the players RP (I am sure there are many of us who have a faith weapon that just does not fit our RP to our disappointment - even if the weapon is crap, its still nice to have the title;) ).
For eg. I have one char who specialises in single-edged weapons. I have another in polearms. Neither have many options for "special weapons", but if there was a quest or two like this, it at least gives us some flexibility as well as promote a wider diversity of weapon usage.

The only drawback or possible problem is that the spell as it is currently is a temporary effect only. Therefore my first thought of giving the weapon to the mob, who then casts the spell on it and gives it back, would not work, unless there is a way to make it permenant.

Just a thought from the AWACTU leader

Sorry if I am just asking the same question in a different form, but does this mean you cant set an
A damroll +1
A hitroll +1
type command onto an object with mposet?
or just the flags that are listed as weaponflags?

Thanks
