Smoke Bombs

I'm not entirely certain whether this is a bug or not, but smoke bombs don't seem to have much effect. I've only tried them twice, in the Howling Peaks, with Drenn. The first time, no mobs were in the area, he was hidden, and THREW the bomb; it gave the echo "You throw the bomb on the ground and it explodes." Then he moved to an adjacent room; the mobs auto-attacked, implying that his hidden flag had been stripped by the action. He THREW a second bomb while fighting, but it had the same effect--an echo and nothing else.

I'm not sure if it's supposed to have an effect or not, but for the price I paid for them(either 4 or 6 platinum apiece in the Gondar temple in Tantras, it's been a while...), I'd have expected them to be a bit more impressive. :)

I might have been using them wrong, or it could be a bug. I'm not sure.

LOOK BOMB
This small round bead contains an alchemical mix that can produce
a puff of whitish cloud. To use it, one would have to hold it and
crush the bomb.
OOC: Make sure that you have only 1 bomb in your inventory when you
.....use it or all your smoke bombs will disappear.

HOLD BOMB
You hold a smoke bomb in your right hand.
CRUSH BOMB
You crush the smoke bomb.
A large cloud of whitish smoke appears in front of you!
I was unable to tell whether this had any effect besides the echo, but it sounds as though the builder tried several approaches to how it might be used. Does anyone know what it (is supposed to) do(es)? Perhaps it allows you to hide in plain sight???

I believe it was added as an echo only item so a rogue could create a distraction and ICly hide.

From my understanding it was supposed to work like invisibility purge. These were Glim's favorite.

That must be a different one. The one I found looks like this:

Code: Select all

examine bomb
This is a small globe of glass divided into two parts by a thin
sheet of metal. Each part is filled with a strange liquid. The bomb
must be activated by throwing it, and thus letting the two liquids mix.
It can be picked up, held.
It cannot be worn with any other armour.
It is medium in size.

From a long time thief player and one that watches way to many anime and ninja-ey movies. I think it is supposed to interrupt combat and give the person a chance to get the heck out of dodge or for those that can hide/sneak to hide without meta-gaming. Since atm we don't have the hide in plain sight skill! <.<

Well, you are both right! The two bombs do different things.

The one described as "This small round bead contains an alchemical mix that can produce a puff of whitish cloud. To use it, one would have to hold it and crush the bomb." is, I think, just an IC device used to cover an escape. I did not readily detect it having a coded effect, though it does have something coded (just too cryptic to mean anything I can discern - I think it is a price adjustment).

The other, described as "This is a small globe of glass divided into two parts by a thin sheet of metal. Each part is filled with a strange liquid. The bomb must be activated by throwing it, and thus letting the two liquids mix.", does what Melian described: it basically acts as invisibility purge, making the invisible visible, when thrown. (Hence its high cost!)

If the latter is not described as such when sold(?), perhaps its description should be modified to that effect. Anyone know if the vendor explains it?

Thanks to everyone for their help on this.

Vendor in question: m22553
Object in question: i22573 a smoke bomb

Nothing seems to say what the bomb is for or what it does. Perhaps this should be added to the object description?

This is not a bug, but is an enhancement suggestion. Moved to Suggestions forum.
