Deity farewells?

Post by Tandria » Fri Dec 05, 2003 4:48 pm

When people who follow a certain deity say farewell to someone, they usually say something that pertains to that deity. What are some of these? For example, I've seen Selunites say "Stars light your path", etc. What would, for example, a Mystran say? More interestingly, what would a follower of Loviatar say?
"May your travels be Wonderful and Mysterious."
Loviatar

"May your pleasures be painful and your pain pleasurable."

The faithful would consider this a blessing but the non-faithful would undoubtedly consider it a curse.

This is very off topic, but seeing Belose's signature in his reply to Loviatar is just funny.

Farewell messages invoking a God

Post by Sindava » Sat Dec 06, 2003 12:29 am

Much as I'd like to ponder why Loviatar would want any more devices...

Farewells which invoke the sentiments of a particular God, or guild or organisation.....

I've not come across any handbooks or websites that list this kind of information, and generally just create something suitable. I'm fairly certain that many others who follow a faith are doing the same.

Some typical examples of farewells I've seen include :
(apologies if I've misquoted anyone)

May your duties be a joy (Torm)
May your pick always swing true (Moradin)
Stars Light your path (Selune)
The Mother grant you an easy path (Chauntea)
Helm watch over thee (Helm)

Dont go hungry! (Yondalla)

(Okay, so I made that last one up  )

But you get the general idea..... you could pretty much use anything that is a suitable reference to your deity and appropriate for greetings or good-byes

ICly I teach all sharites a greeting and parting In Character when they are accepted into the faith. The only other farwell any of my characters use.. is My Talona Cleric. She likes to say "Health elude you"

As a druid of Chauntea, the Great Mother, "Green paths" is one I like to use.
Rhelian

Rhelian's been using "Mystra guide and protect" for as long as she's been around.

I forget Dalvyn's one, but it was pretty nifty too

For Grumbar...

"Be a rock"

"May your path be sturdy"

"Be patient as a mountain and sturdy as Toril"

I made up one for Yondalla as well - although the idea came from mister Chester's signature.

"Safe journeys, furry feet, warm campfires, `till next we meet!"

I guess it doesn't have to be just for followers of the provider, though. It's more of a general good-smallfolk farewell. :D

For Lliira :

I dont use it but I have seen Rhelians used for an assortment of gods...

<enter god here> guide and protect.

Hmm...got this one from Baldur's Gate...

"Glittergold guide your eye on your travels"
Glim asks Gwain 'Can I be on the watch?!?'
Gwain raises an eyebrow.
Gwain seems to display a look of complete horror for a second...

This girl is too self centred to consider having a regular farewell, she is more interested in the well wishes others give her for her own travels hehehe

Too self-centered, too vain, all the same thing, right? ::shuts up before pixie-dom comes again:: I've always liked, after just really angering someone, or disturbing them (masochistic characters have that effect, I've learned), and they threaten my character..."Ah, but you could not compare to Lady Firehair in punishments, but please, do try." Or something to that effect. I try not to make it too monotonous. And before anyone says anything, no, I am NOT sucking up. I just really don't want to be a pixie again, alright?

I have not found anything to venerate Cyric in a form of a parting line, though, really, what more can I say about the only true diety that you should not already know....

Instead I tend to just ask:

"Why are you still here?"

An inspiring Helmite farewell to those of dubious alignment.

"Helm sees all, know this and be judged"
