Pkill situations

Post by Bellayana » Sat Oct 02, 2010 10:05 pm

Alright, now I am just posting this because as a player of a goblin character I feel as though this should be given from a players perspective.

Since I have started playing goblins I have realized they believe themselves to be vicitims. They believe themselves to be the victims of the elven, human, dwarf, gnome alliance that has taken goblin and orc land. Ontop of that many feel resentment towards the Orcs secretly for their continual control over the goblins using their size to capitalize. The goblins because of this are savage and believe in survival using their brains and the stupid orcs.

If a goblin encounters one or two elves in a land that they view as their land they will capitalize to get rid of the elven scouting patrol. Many goblins would just attack, but thankfully FK has the pkill policy about roleplaying. Think of it this way, a goblin asks you to leave you will either say no or leave. If you say no, do you expect the goblin to just say "Well I asked alright bye." no...Just like if you were on a quest and come in contact with monster you would likely just attack it. Now, these types of encounters should be great opportunities for roleplay but if you come to a bridge where you have to fight it out or not do not just call higher level pc's to come to your side to bully another character. There are room restrictions and I would like to ask if the imms could add a flying mount restriction for flying mounts.

These restrictions are so that people can roleplay. I will say this, that when I am in a situation I am on killmode stun if its going to be a pkill. And I have been the victim of a pkill as well, but its all in the roleplay. I personally hate to just kill someone unless its been an ongoing feud or established arch enemy. But from the player of a goblin character, you can't complain if we are following cannon. Think of your interaction as a special situation, an interaction. We put kismet into playing these characters to make the game and interaction more unique don't think us the enemies. I would expect a sun elf to kill me if he walked in on me killing elves, but keep it on killmode stun as the pkill help files suggest. Think about the other player behind the computer.

No race is an invitation to expect, initiate or be overly aggressive about player killing.

Camping an area of your fellow race and consistently entering into aggressive yelling and confrontational roleplay with other races is not the purpose of the race being available, or the only roleplay option for any race. (IE: Orcs and Elves in Shilmista. Drow in Drow Keep. Goblins in Howling Peaks. Halflings in Hillvale.)

Because someone's race is goblin does not mean s/he has the right to attempt to control an area, there is no reason the members of the race which truly control the area would invite a PC to police who enters their area.

Posting to tell people to roleplay if a goblin asks them to leave a goblin infested area or to essentially "expect confrontation" is an unfair statement. No one can force anyones characters to fear one goblin. No one can force anyones character to assume one goblin/orc/drow is apart of the group of goblin/orc/drow in the area in question.

All players should remember that merely because their character is of a race that also exists in large numbers in any area does not give them the right to "use that to their advantage" and behave as a part of the society in the area consistently.

Before anyone enters into this kind of thing, sit back and look at it as if your human character were encountering your single goblin/orc/drow. Would they be scared? Would they believe this goblin/drow/orc who wears the same type of things their human has found adventuring has any hold over the other goblin/orc/drow? Would they believe a goblin/orc/drow with a holy symbol unlike the rest of that race in said area is in control? Would they believe any of these races which often deceive eachother would come to help the one goblin/drow/orc standing alone? Personally when I think of this, I fear for the safety of my goblin/orc/drow if I were ever brazen enough to give these impressions, or even sit in an area full of my own race at all. A pair of people killing dozes of my kin, but I'm the stand alone to be feared? It doesn't piece together in my head. These things, and the difficulty in general of these more rare races are the reason they come with a kismet price tag.
Beshaba potatoes.

What if they don't camp it and just pop in occasionally? Especially since there has been a lot of RP in the area with some interesting characters? Why have goblins in a game when they can't rp their feud with other races especially Elvish Races? I mean what roleplay is there, besides roleplaying like a good character just in a evil sphere? That doesn't make any sense.

I'm sorry... I think these RP pkill situations could be less trouble in the game. We are not actually killing the PC and making them suffer a experience loss, or having to find somone to raise them... we are simply stunning them. Now, taking the items and such should be done very very very very limitedly... and the game's policy on that is perfect, but I don't think we should limit the option to do this sort of RP. But it should be RPed out. Attacking a character blindly, after only a few words, is not what I would call rp. Because one... you do have to feel out the strange goblin... some talk between the characters should interact... or smoting... and then of course... a little osay never hurt to inform the player of your intentions and set up killmode stun on both parties. We have a massive RP environment, and I, as an evil, enjoy the interaction that comes with the pkill situations, and I have never had a complaint from the other party, because of the way we set it up. Now if your character is afraid, or you know you are about to get your butt whomped on... RP it out... be scared in your smotes, or smote running away... it opens up for tracking, and usage of skills. Also... if this goblin does kill someone... he has to be prepared for retaliation. If this good aligned character goes back to waterdeep, and rallies the troops, and the goblin gets killed in retaliation... well that has to be expected as well. But this should be done only in firm rp situations. Sometimes it is in our character's natures, and faiths and such to kill other characters. But with the stun feature, again, I don't see how it would irritate another player. This isn't world of warcraft where someone would camp a corpse and start problems like that. We all enjoy RP, and as evils we honestly enjoy making interesting rp for the good aligned people. I heavily encourage discussing comfort options in osay if the other player seems unsure... but for those of us who have been here for awhile... can you honestly say you don't enjoy the interaction in these situations? My evil is psychotic, and you all know you love it. lol :D

Forgot to add one little thing in regards to calling in a bunch of friends on a pkill roleplay situation... this is slightly annoying... because if you are out by the Keep (which this has happened...) and you enter into a possible pkill situation, and your friends are in Waterdeep... ok yes, by the game set up, you could get to the Keep before the actual kill happens... but this is for convience of playing the game... if you actually think about it... it would take weeks and weeks possibly months to cross that amount of land irl... so calling your buddies in across the kingdoms to save you... isn't really roleplaying... now going back and getting your friends to hunt them down later and retaliate is. I'd like to see more people start and keep up on RP's like this. It just makes the game so much more fun.

I'd like to chime in. Though I'm certain I've little right to really be involved in this particular discussion, I hope what I say will be taken in the good nature I intend it:

First, I would like to say I agree with Mele on this subject, with the following caveats:
  • Always be mindful of where you are: If you're a noticeably evil race in an area that is settled by an opposing race, chances are you weren't invited. Just because the "mobs" don't attack doesn't mean they aren't characters too.
  • There's a difference between Villages, Encampments, Towns, and Cities; and Dungeons and Quest Areas. One of the most common being lack of structured law. This should always be considered in case you may be biting off more than you can chew. I wouldn't consider this metagaming because your character would FEEL the difference between these distinctly different areas. The first set (for clarity: Villages, Encampments, Towns, and Cities) being areas that have special accommodations understood between the players and staff.. You may be able to repetitively grind the second set listed (for clarity: Dungeons and Quest Areas) provided you RP everything properly and it's feasibly possible for your character to be doing so, but razing Villages, Encampments, Towns, and Cities is forbidden and dealt with harshly. Trying to kick people out of Villages, Encampments, Towns, and Cities who ICly don't belong there is very fair game, but doing so in Dungeon and Quest Areas is dangerous business. They're places of typical lawlessness and should be afforded that caution.
  • Try to be fair in how your character SHOULD act ICly and remember if you back your character into a PK situation, that the opposing force shouldn't be blamed for taking your character up on the gracious offer of their head.
Please don't get me wrong, however. I will never advocate telling other players how to play their characters. To me, that's a huge no-no. No one can tell you how YOU should be playing YOUR character.. but, admittedly, sometimes we make mistakes as humans and do something on our characters without thinking how THEY would think. These are generally the most severe consequences your character will receive a response (ranging from a tongue-lashing IC to semi-permanent "bad stuff" happening) to your character's actions.

Basically, always keep RP in mind and try to keep yourself well-versed in the rules of the game. Try to be fair to each other, but don't expect to be given leniency when you put your character in situations or do things as them that it'd be difficult to defend that they'd be comfortable doing.

No matter what, I would add this (without meaning to suggest that anyone involved in this discussion is guilty of it): be prepared to reap what you sow. If your PC is willing to attack weaker PCs on certain grounds, or under certain circumstances, do not be a hypocrite and whinge if when the tables are turned and you are the weaker PC in a similar situation. Calling forth rules only when the serve your purposes is a fast track to being universally despised.

More concretely: If I play, say, an Orc, and become renown for killing or harassing young PCs, I should be prepared for, and accept, the possibility that my notoriety gains the attention of a powerful protector-type PC who seeks me out and hunts me down.
