Item (Bag) Resize MUD Translation

Post by Selveem » Sat Jan 15, 2011 6:23 pm

This is something I noticed when I made a large creature, but didn't bother mentioning because it's pretty low on the totem pole:

When you resize a bag larger, it can't hold much more than when it was smaller (if any more, for that matter). As a large creature that just started brewing, Kiert's bags and the like were made the correct size for him, but they still hold only a few pieces of his equipment. Anything more than that can't fit. What ends up happening is that he needs to hold everything in his inventory and though he's a rather agile creature, it's not very IC for him to be juggling a full set of armor while brewing. It just doesn't seem safe.

What I am worried about is that people'll just make their bags larger as medium creatures. Instead of medium sized creatures walking about with backpacks, they'll all be walking around with contractor-sized trash bags.

So, alternatively, is it possible that large items take as much space as a medium item would?

Huh, I never realize bags were resizable. So many have descriptions that comment on their size and usable items, I never even tried. Scares me to think of resizing a money pouch to large size a bit, to be honest.

Guess the real question becomes should we make resizing bags impact carry limit or disable resize on bags to keep with descriptions?

Just as important, are there enough default 'large' containers open to all races, for those that need to pack whole armor suits? I don not have as much experience with exotic races to know for sure.

Resizing bags does not have any coded impact on their carry weight. In order to test the reality of the issue I followed these steps:
  • I created two travellers packs (8036)

I resized one from medium to large at the Waterdeep Tailor

I verified that both still were coded for 100 lbs. of carry capacity.

I then put pieces of armor in the medium one until could not hold anymore.

I emptied this bag and dropped the medium pack in another room.

I filled the large one with the same items and it took all of them.

It appears that these items' capacity does not change when you resize them.
It is possible, however, that larger-sized items weigh more and so it may create the illusion that the pack holds less.

Thanks for the verification. I didn't know whether they did hold more as large or not, just that they don't hold a lot of large-sized armor. :)
