Bows and Other Projectiles

Post by Harroghty » Mon Apr 25, 2011 5:35 pm

Bows work, but some other projectiles currently do not (it appears to be only thrown ones, crossbows and slings work fine).

The correct syntax to fire a bow is shoot direction target.
e.g. shoot n dummy

If your bow does not work, most often this is because you have the wrong ammunition. All projectile firing weapons have an ammunition specific to them and this sometimes can be confusing. For example, slings and staff slings use different ammunition; heavy and light crossbows use different ammunition. Also, short bows and long bows use different ammunition. You can tell by examining the ammunition. For example:

A short broadhead arrow

exa arrow

It is an arrow with a triangular steel head for taking down big game.
It is for use with short bows.
a short broadhead arrow is made for a short bow
It is medium in size.
and
a long broadhead arrow

exa arrow

It is medium in size.
It is an arrow with a triangular steel head for taking down big game.
It is for use with long bows.
a long broadhead arrow is made for a long bow
It is medium in size.
The short arrow works with short bows and the long arrow works with long bows. Bows are usually named clearly ("a short bow" or "a long bow"), but if they are not then you may examine them to find out for certain.
a horse bow

exa bow

A horse bow of a type favoured by the nomads of The Anauroch. Short and
recurved, it is an ideal weapon for use by a mounted man.
It is a short bow in the bows category of weapons.
It can be picked up, held, held in both hands.
It cannot be worn with any other armour.
It is medium in size.
I hope that this is helpful!

Another quirk, you need to be able to see in the room you're firing to, as in "the room the target is in is not in the darkness"

(Most?) thrown projectiles are now working, thanks to Mask!

Thanks, Brar, for that proviso. I've added it to the helpfile, as
"You must be able to see in the light ambient in the room that contains your target."
