Dodge for warriors

I was curious as to why the warrior class does not gain the dodge skill as all its sub classes do? I suggest we add this.

My position (not the official one in this case) is that it is because warriors are dumb, untrained brutes. They can attack pretty well, but lack the art to defend themselves without formal training; therefore, those guilds with formal training all have it (squires, paladins, fighters, and rangers).

I don't agree; we're talking about dodging, not performing a riposte or a complex series of sword strikes.

Just because you aren't in a fancy guild for fighters, started hugging trees, or decided to go celibate for a God doesn't mean you can't learn to dodge a weapon swung at you when your primary profession relies on landing physical blows while avoiding them. The fact that a warrior can't learn to dodge because he has no formal training is just like saying a wizard can't learn to detect magic because he hasn't joined his uber-elite guild.

From an OOC standpoint, giving warriors dodge won't make them much more powerful and I don't see any reason (aside from other things taking priority over the change) to deny them that skill when guilds a warrior can join thereafter all have dodge.

no warrior remains a warrior for very long, what's the point?

Not to mention you can naturally avoid or duck under some attacks as displayed by classes that don't receive doge as a skill option.

That may be true now, but I remember when Rangers required a special token. Either way, that's a very good point.

Rangers do not require a token. They are no longer hindered by a potential lack of ranger characters and council members. The only people in-game who suffer are pages, which (if you ask me) should suffer anyway until they earn class : squire. All other warriors most likely join their guilds at or shortly after level 10.

As someone actively playing, I have to agree that while I see the logic behind suggesting a warrior gets dodge it does not seem that big of a difference.

Rangers and warriors can immediately seek their guilding and squires are very well taken care of and barely wait that much longer. The point of that entire roleplay is that it takes slightly longer, so those going in are aware.

If you're choosing to roleplay not-guilded it's a conscious decision on your behalf to lose out on the skills granted upon guilding. Without that, there would be little point in having guilds.

As Gwain said, all classes naturally bob and weave, those with dodge are just better at it. You're not losing any roleplay of doing so in the short time you're unguilded, or if you make the choice for yourself not to guild.
