prompt bar sheathed weapon

I would like to be able to add to my prompt bar to show what I currently have equipped in my left and right hand. More often than not, I find myself wandering town with a drawn sword and a torch in my hand. And I don't really think about it until someone says am I happy to see them or is that my sword?

Adapt, and learn to think about it. That's an awful lot of coding for something that most people are able to cope with.

This is something we're all guilty of. I don't know the code or what would be involved, but a little red asterisk under the "little man's" hands when they might be holding something could serve to help. Thoughts?

"Also, you show me someone who says they've never forgot a weapon in their hand and I'll show you a liar." Should be a quote or something. XD

Totes. We all do it. You could always answer the original question, "Is that a sword in your hand, or are you just happy to see me?" with "Bend over and I'll show you."

Kielar, I have gotten into the habit of typing "eq" whenever I am hanging around a public place/walking the streets of a city. It shows you what you're wearing/holding without everyone else getting the echo of you looking at yourself. You can then be a little bit more subtle about removing things if you need to.

This may be impractical in the short term for all the above reasons, but I think that it would be a cool addition in the future. It's certainly not ground breaking: many other MUDs have similar interfaces with similar data. We are catering to the WoW generation; the harder, not smarter approach does not interest them even if we wished that it did.

I agree with Lirith; the EQ command is immensely helpful as you wander around (or just logged back in) to remember what you're doing.

I said this -exact- thing to someone recently. But that's exactly why I quit WoW, and other MMOs, and came back to mudding. I think if we overmuch cater to that faction, that's all that will remain, and the people who came to MUD to avoid that will leave.

Jus' sayin.

True, Tarven, but there is a balance between the two extremes and I believe that we are moving towards it in a lot of ways. (Admittedly there are many ways in which I do not want to shift.)

Interface is not the soul of the game. It is a comfort of information that can be accorded to individuals at no loss; this specific instance would allow for more screen time of important information--like smotes, room descriptions, and everything else that isn't an equipment read out--and disallow absolutely nothing. If MMOs have figured one thing out, it's how to make a game easy to access. This is a triumph in my opinion, and as long as we don't have DMs running specific plots (I've been wondering about ideas on how to do that lately, after trying again to find a pnp campaign online and failing), the best I surmise we can do is to make better what we have--mechanically, aesthetically, and in regards to ease of access.

I think there are other, more important balance factors that need attention, than personal accountability. I understand what you're saying, and I do agree there are some areas of compromise. It's a valid idea, but imo should be about as low on the totem pole of priority as something could get. But then, I'm not the one that decides such things. Just voicing my opinion that fixing spells, or skills, or figuring out how not to make Polymorph be insanely OP would take precedent over something that the vast majority of us have learned to cope with. Then again, if it's a very simple fix, then it really wouldn't be that big of an issue. Might even be helpful so you can notice more readily when you've been disarmed. *shrugs*
