[FEAT] Tiefling - Prehensile tail

Your tail is unusually well developed, and capable of grasping and manipulating objects.
This feat allows you to pick up or drop items without provoking an attack of opportunity, and to hold an item with your tail. While your tail can hold a weapon, the weapon cannot be used to make attacks.
A pre-requisite of this feat is 'fiendish bloodline'.
I see this as a racial alternative to the quick draw feat; while it provides an additional wear location, it can't be used to move items in or out of containers like quick draw. It would add a bit more flavour to tieflings.

I like it. I could smoke with my tail, should I choose to grow one.

Aren't we at some kind of limit in wear locations in hard code? I think a shoulder slot was suggested some years ago, and this was the answer given.

If wear locations are at the maximum regarding code. Maybe the tail could give the trip skill instead, or if your class has it as a skill already, it could provide a bonus to trip.

Is the trip skill still in-game?
I was wondering about a bonus to steal...

A good counter-weight to this would be giving Aasimars a lion tail or something similar with very close traits to the tiefling tail, if code and hard code allows.

Meh... seems the
trip skill was indeed scrapped. Not sure about granting
steal though, it would allow non-thieves to pickpocket, but it might not be too unbalancing if the bonus to steal was +4 or so, non-thieves would be an amateur at it and wouldn't be able to raise the skill level, thus thieves would still have the upper hand on it.
I agree Aasimar should get a counterbalancing feat to keep them on par. Not so thrilled about them having tails though. Maybe something more... celestial.

Perhaps a class-based bonus:
- Fighter: bonus to disarm or improved disarm feat
- Thief/Bard: bonus to steal
- Cleric/wizard: still spell feat
Edit: but really I'd much prefer the additional wear location if possible.

But my monkey celestial rip on Sun Wukong won't be legit if he doesn't have a prehensile monkey tail, man..

I did some research on this and I couldn't really find anything specifically for 3.5 Edition...
Future SRD:
Benefits: A prehensile tail grants a +2 mutation bonus on Balance checks. It can also grasp and manipulate a simple object up to one size category smaller than the creature’s size category. A prehensile tail cannot be used to operate a piece of equipment that requires opposable digits or fine motor control (such as a cell phone).
A creature can “hang” from its prehensile tail indefinitely by wrapping it around a larger object, thereby freeing up its other limbs. The prehensile tail isn’t dexterous or strong enough to fire ranged weapons or make melee attacks, however.
---
With this version I guess you would get some kind of bonus to Dexterity and would be able to remove/place things from/into containers, without arms. Say you lost one arm and the other is mangled, so you're sitting at the healer dying with no way to get your coin out and pay them. Welp... use your tail.
Pathfinder SRD:
Many tieflings have tails, but some have long, flexible tails that can be used to carry items. While they cannot wield weapons with their tails, they can use them to retrieve small, stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action. This racial trait replaces fiendish sorcery.
---
No Dexterity bonus and it is called Grasping Tail, here. The only benefit you get is the ability to manipulate small items that you are carrying.
3.0 Edition SRD:(Serpent Kingdoms p. 147)
You can use your tail to manipulate objects.
Prerequisites:
STR 13, Tail Attack, Two-Weapon Fighting or Multiweapon Fighting
Benefit
You can use your tail as an extra "hand." It can grasp melee weapons and use them in combat, although the normal penalties for using an off-hand weapon apply. If you have two hands, your tail counts as a third hand for the purpose of the Multiweapon Fighting feat and all other feats for which it is a prerequisite. You can also use your tail to assist with grapple checks and Climb checks. You gain a +2 competence bonus on all such checks.
---
The only thing I see possible to do IG with this version would be manipulation of objects without arms and a +2 to Climb.
I guess maybe a combination of all three would make it worth the feat point.
- +2 to Climb.
- +2 to Dexterity
- Ability to manipulate objects below the size category of your PC, without arms.

There are some that do have tails though. Lillend, and Couatl descendants have the options of this.
I am not quite sure I agree with a coded slot. I understand wanted more benefits for a tiefling, and aasimar, but what is wrong with putting the tail in the description like now, and using it in smotes? Personally I think it is a waste of coding to do something like this.

Or just increase the number of items that you can have in your inventory by N.

The bonus to dexterity would do that. I doubt many people would spend a feat point for only extra inventory space.

The feat "Packrat" gives inventory space. And people use it.

The Packrat Feat helpfile wrote:You have become adept at finding ways to secret more things about yourself, enabling you to carry more things total. This feat allows you to carry more than before. Each time you take this feat you add to your ability to carry more items, as well as a larger weight in total. This feat can be taken twice.
Yeah, but more inventory space isn't the only benefit that you get.
