A Question of Strikes

Post by Yboesh » Sun Mar 21, 2004 10:07 am

This may be a basic newb question, but I was wondering the following: If some one is given a strike, are they notified when the strike is given, or do they find out when they gather enough to merit a site-ban, or do they find out at all? Just something that crossed my mind as I surfed the forum today.

It is pretty much impossible for you to get a strike without knowing about it. Not only are you told you are getting one, it usually comes with a lecture on WHY you are getting a strike. :)

After giving the strike, we tend to explain the situation you are in as far as no dwellings or special applications, and the procedure for applying to have it expunged in due time.

In some extremely rare circumstances where a character/player deserving a strike does not log for an extended period of time, he/she may be loaded by us and given the strike while they are not in game. Still, in these cases, the character is most often in the Abyss and stays there until they come back and we can chat.

Lately, several people have mistaken PUNISHMENT for a strike. They are very different. Punishment is a command used by imms to reduce a single character's XP (unlike strikes which are on the PLAYER not the CHARACTER). We do this from time to time as a way to mete out consequences for lesser offenses that do not merit a strike. It's opposite is REWARD. In addition, we can and do take or give glory.
