Mining - Testing

In one zone, two rooms, I conducted a test.

The ore present was iron. It was present in both rooms. So after getting iron ore in room 1, I moved to room 2 and continued to mine. There was iron present in room 2.

Soon the iron present in room 2 disappeared and was replaced by tin. I moved back to room 1 expecting to get more iron, but instead I got tin. Nobody had been mining in that other room since.

So it appears that the lode is tied to the player? I would have to work through the entire lode each time instead of prospecting in each room?

Since I'm not entirely sure how this mechanic is working I find it difficult to make an actual suggestion, but this seems kind of awkward to me. Is my testing flawed?

No, the load is tied to an area. When you "Set" an area with type of ore, it will stay that way until you clear all of the vein. Which is why, if you are a high level miner, I suggest going to a place that is NOT where low level miners mine. This way, you do not set an area to a higher metal than the others can mine.

By "high level miner" do you mean mining skill level or practical level?

Are the individual areas set to a max grade of metal?

And what are the grades of metal?

I mean skill level in mining. A master miner can mine things like platinum and diamonds where as a amateur miner would not be able to mine these and will get the message something like..."You find a vein that is too difficult for you to mine" or something along those lines. So you cannot mine in that area if it is set too high for you.

As far as areas go, I have gotten higher level ore from just about everywhere, so I do not think there is a level cap on areas. I think it basically just checks to make sure it is an underground mineable area and then checks against your mining skill when you are "setting" that area.

Informative! Thanks!

So when you seed an area at your skill level, how long does it remain seeded? Until reboot? Until someone mines out that lode and reseeds?

Yep. A reboot will clear the areas and once you see the echo. "You have mined the last piece of ore" The next time someone hits a success in mine in the area, it sets the area to whatever metal/gem that person hits.
