Bloodline/House names

Post by Beskytter » Thu Oct 15, 2015 4:49 am

I don't know the significance of certain words as used in the game, but I've noted finally that there is one house that stands out to me, House Faen Tlabbar.

I don't know how it passed by me before, but Faen is the F word in Norwegian. I won't teach anyone how to pronounce it correctly, but that is what we use. I don't know that it is all that harmful given how few speak street Bokmal but it is easily googled now and anyone looking for Faen Tlabbar online might stumble across its meaning.

If there are other houses with odd words when translated, we should likely post it here. I'm not suggesting going out and searching each name but if you happen to notice it perhaps mention it.

Faen Tlabbar is a huge part of canon. Most people come to FK because they know FR with the occasional slip in of people like myself who did not until they came here. It is not likely to be found offensive often, given it is canon.

My vocabulary is expanding.

While we're at it, the word "Yemin" in my language means "pile of junk in my yard that I can't seem to sell" and is normally used as a pejorative.

And in my language, the word "gift" actually means poison ;)

dort, wo zwischen Grabkreuzen Mohnblumen blühn,
da flüstern die Gräser und wiegen sich leicht
im Wind, der sanft über das Gräberfeld streicht.

Bad luck if you walk through an area with a lot of Mist, too.

I looked into that house and can see how there's nothing to be done. Guess I get a neat little chuckle each time I see someone logged in.

I know what you mean. :)

I get a laugh every time I drive to a nearby town and go past a Mexican food restaurant named "Casa de Casa."

I see where we stand now.

I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!
