Cloth armor + Dex bonus

I don't think it's a mistake, I think it's just the way the game is set up but shouldn't cloth worn as armor still allow a dex bonus to AC? I'd never heard of a restriction to it and in fact went through all my notes, books, and so on to see and there's no mention of it at all anywhere. Nothing saying it does either, cloth as armor just doesn't exist to D&D.

I think I know why too, but I'm curious what the consensus is about it.

Well, I suspect originally and this may be giving WOTc too much credit but originally, clothes would not be considered to be armour, because it provided a useful mechanic by which classes that could not wear armour and so not net the benefits of armour enchantments could be balanced out with their abilities.

Unfortunately, like everything else. 3.0 and 3.5 broke everything:

Heh, yes. That becomes far too much rule based arguing. However, in that particular situation I would state that no it doesn't count as armor since it only has armor like effect against size pixie creatures of race insect. Against a human with a sword or a hill giant's fist you're wearing a cumbersome suit of soft leather that won't stand up to actual damage being done.

Anyways, I think I might have figured out what I'm seeing in game after returning to look at the score sheet, removing a piece of cloth, and then doing the breakdown on the AC. It might look more confusing that it is once it's thought over.
