Mob that copies books?

Post by Andreas » Fri Oct 07, 2016 9:58 pm

Is it possible to have a prog on a mob that will allow it to copy books? If so... how would that even be done?

I.e. PC has a book they want copied. The PC pays a fee, gives the book to the mob and the mob loads another copy of that item and gives both back to the PC? Or maybe the PC has the book in their inventory and the mob can load a copy of it and give it to the PC after a fee is paid?

Please name the NPC Johannes Gutenberg and have it be a Gnome!

It depends upon the book. There are some books which are existing VNUMs of their own (e.g. a book - "The Price of Duty" by Siobhan) and those which are just written by a PC on the fly (basically a renamed parchment object). The difficulty arises when we look at which of the hundreds of books one can copy reasonably IC and which one cannot, and the program becomes very complicated upon that basis.

What about having the book work like a noteboard? Meaning you can post notes to it and remove them and anyone else that has the same noteboard can see the post or 'book' entry? Make the notes non removable and limit the size of the board.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

Is it possible to have the mob copy existing vnum books and exclude a renamed piece of parchment that someone calls a book?

Or is there a list of books that mobs can carry to sell outside of the limbo and Waterdeep items so my scribe mob can just have a huge book collection to sell instead of trying to complicate things with a scribing prog?
