Foils and Weapon Finesse

Post by Areia » Thu Jun 22, 2017 12:30 am

I was surprised to find today with another that the weapon finesse feat doesn't actually apply to foils. I propose they be added to the list of exceptions this feat handles, if possible.

Tabletop didn't really have foils per se, as I recall, so it wasn't a weapon type that needed to be mentioned in the feat's description... But from everything I know about those types of weapons, foils and rapiers are close in both make and the fighting styles to which they lend themselves (the one notable exception being that rapiers actually do have one or two edges for cutting, while foils are purely thrusting weapons). Foils in fact tend to be quite a lot lighter than rapiers due to their shorter lengths and narrower blades, so the foil would be even more better suited to what D&D calls finesse fighting than would be the rapier.

Makes sense to me, for whatever that's worth.

Agreed.

Infact the most prominent results when googled is fencing:

Should definitely be a finesse weapon.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!
