Anyone got the time?

Post by Ayden » Sat Oct 07, 2017 8:17 pm

I've recently grown curious about something that could, or may not, dramatically affect role play in this current iteration of the forgotten realms.

Does anyone know exactly what year of the forgotten realms the MUD is currently in?

There's a lot of lore out there and I was pondering over which of the many significant events had already passed and which have not. I'm sure the Time of Troubles has already passed based on NPC's mentioning it via religion introductions and what have you. (unless I'm mistaken, then by all means correct me.) I'm mostly curious about what has not happened that would dramatically change the game world if it were to happen.

For instance, Spellplague came around in 1385 DR, after the Time of Troubles, which transpired in 1358 DR. Do we have a current year number?

1372DR seems to be the common agreement, but there are many things that are currently prior/later than that. For example; Mystra is pre/mid "Trial of Cyric the Mad", she's still all good aligned and biased and Adon is alive, while Kelemvor and Cyric are post-trial, the first having released his humanity and latter having become less of an insane mess and more of a calculating bastard (could be mistaken on Cyric, Zeth feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that point). 1372dr is at the trailing edge of 3rd edition d&d, the last dredges of the Time of Troubles, but there are many exceptions and the timeline looks more like a roller coaster than a straight line.

Correct, far as I can tell. Helpfile states Cyric has recovered from his madness, yet still holds grudges. I'm no expert on timelines, but far as demeanor goes, I imagine he's less insane. Accurate info best to come from IMMs but from a lowly FM point of view, your statement is correct.

Hey, Ayden: check out the setting summary and the rest of the World forum for this kind of info. Feel free to post there for clarifications, too.
