being blind

Post by Cret » Thu Mar 10, 2005 8:10 am

Now for a while ive been thinking about this.

cast <spell> <target>
punch <character>

or once in combat
cast <spell>
punch

But if your blind how can you automaticly see your target?
How can you do more then flail at where you precieve the enemy to be.. Cast magic missile towards the wall.. and hit your enemy?

I dont want this to only be about cast. Punch... Kick.. any skill that would require a target to hit. I see blind fighting for thoese melee folks and true sight for thoes of mystical nature.

A mage.. who has been blinded should be ineffective if he cant see through the dirt.. the finger poke.. or the "cast continual darkness eyes" what not.

I was hoping that a check be added to abilities.. and spells. If they have true sight on then they can target.. or some other ability that would alow then to see though the dirt/poke/spell.

Though not all spells or abilities would be affected.. kick could be a spinning kick so it might hit 360... flame strike?.. some spells that are area of affect.. that sort of thing, would make combat much more viable.. and help out thieves quiet a bit.

Any ideas, thoughts, comments.. threats?

A 360 kick...? o_O You mean literally spin in a circle with your leg extended? I doubt that would work very well... And even so, the enemy could still just step backwards to avoid it. So, if this check was added, I would imagine kick would be affected. I always imagined the "beautiful full-circle kick" to be a round house kick, but that's just me. ::shrug::

Sorry, the martial artist in me screams sometimes. :D

Oh yeah, I think this is a good idea too. It definately would make blind(especially for thieves) much more effective.

When blind a person can react by sound if they have trained blind fighting. They will know how to take advantage to that.

Sight is one sense to see with, there is taste, touch smell and hearing, all allow you to see to some degree.

Though I must say, tasting the air to locate an enemy would be limited to people who could polymorph into snakes, wouldn't it?

I would imagine the blind fight feat would still counteract all forms and affects of blindness.

I believe blind fighting only counters fighting aspects.. and only slightly. I believe you still have a -to hit, though I know littel about it. Blind fighting wouldnt alow you to target with a spell as much. Perhaps lob a fireball in the general direction.. of the oponet... or say a rat that suddenly moved.
