My deep thanks to the coders and developers who put in the time to add elements to at least one city of the realms - the changes are most appropriate.
To those who have worn paths in the dirt from travelling the same roads again and again - explore anew, for there are new wonders to be found!
However, I do have a question to put forth, relating to recently raised issues such as Drow travelling the surface, laws for Waterdeep, and the nature of RP more generally:
We don't want the innocent and young decimated by marauding elders of opposite alignment. It makes lots of sense to me to have (relatively) safe places for goods and evils alike to grow up, without being cut down in their youth by an over-eager goodie-goodie or evildoer. BUT, doing this with locations is tricky because it often reduces interaction amongst players, especially those of opposing alignments.
I've been trying to think of a way of balancing OOC concerns with IC realism in the wilds of Faerun, however - a way that the young, or those more interested in poetry or discussion, can still walk the lands in relative peace, but those bruising for a fight can also find it.
Might it be possible to set up a flag for each character, as a way to "opt in" to aggressive RP; a flag that, if off, would actually prevent entrance to certain places (where they would not have a good time), and that, if on, would alert others they encounter to the fact that they are ready to have a duel to the death in an IC-realistic way (that is, if a level 45 orc leader far their superior bumps into them, he/she will treat them with IC realism, bullying them about, without concern for huring their OOC feelings)?
Other suggestions as to how to deal with this friction are invited, this was just a half-baked idea I came up with in response to Dalvyn's priority post, and it just kept baking after I decided not to include it, so I present it here for taste-testing.
...oh, and while I am at thank-yous, one to Dalvyn, for his leadership to get us onto a great, productive topic while our characters were idle! (Even if, predictably, it means another list of wishes for those at the controls...)
