PK and Area of Effect Spells

I remember hearing once, that we are not allowed to group, during a PK situation - or that it is considered bad form to do so. Firstly, I'd just like to ask, is this correct?

Secondly, I would also like to ask: if this is correct, does that mean a wizard should steer clear of AoE spells? I mean, is asking your buddies to group with you so you don't harm them disallowed?

Just occurred to me today, whilst reading about spells.

Interested in any answers, really.

Grouping during the roleplay which precedes a possible player versus player combat is not forbidden, but it is much more preferable that it is done in advance or that conflicts are resolved one on one.

Dragging half a dozen of your compatriots into a fight when they may not wish to take part can cause untold problems.

With the particular issue around the devastating affects of AOE spells, grouping is obviously safer for your allies.

Avoiding AOE spells would be very limiting, what you can do instead is still group with all your allies, but have every individual in your group set their config options to not autoassist, then if they wish to enter into the fray they can, if its not in their nature they will be left out of the fray.

Code: Select all

config -autoassist
I personally think autoassist should be removed completely for PCs anyway. A PC should never just attack something because someone else did. If you want to be in a group you should have to pay attention to whats going on instead of being dragged around attackiing mobs while you are off doing something else.
