Skill leveling
Skill leveling
Was told to open a new thread on this - as the last is over a year old and closed.
Recently, ive been attempting to raise skills. Asking other players, i get some mixed answers. Does using skills like backstab, steal, bash - etc.. raise slower if used on lower level mobs as to raising quicker on mobs of equil/higher level then the skill user.
I know casters are able to raise spells on low level mobs. As far as Ive noticed ive not raised one point in my backstab in months. And ive been practicing it quiet frequently.

This concern has been raised several times in recent months and when I last queried it with Mask he indicated that the level to level modifier on skill training had, he thought, been removed quite a while back.
The move of the game and the Christmas rollback aside, the modifier due to opponents level is either there or it isnt. Hopefully, when Mask has a spare minute (rare at the moment) he will be able to look into this.
Other discussions around how skills increase and/or the rate at which they improve may solve this issue, but you'll need to wait patiently for a properly informed answer.
And you did it again... Quit harping on how long ago it was since something was first raised

Hey, I see lots of people harping on people (some with good cause) for making a new post when there is one open and active... I see it as he is showing that he tried to search for one but the one he found... is non active and closed.
I thought that the level to level ratio was never changed and was kept... several other people I have asked either don't know what I'm talking about... or have no idea how it works... If it was removed... then I am glad it was... but I have not seen anything that was said about it's removal... only it's input into the game...
Mask... you do awesome work and take your time!
Kelemvor... you do too...

Should it be something like the level of the skill vs. the level of the mob? I mean the level of the pc shouldn't have anything to do with it. Even if you are level 50 and starting a new skill or weapon or spell you shouldn't be expected to train that inept skill on a level 50 mob.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that PC level shouldn't have anything to do with it. The character level is akin to their experience and so an experienced character should be able to take on some tougher things despite knowing the weapon/skill/spell. If your faced an enemy before and are facing it again, you may be holding that sword by the blade and whacking it with the handle, but you'll know where to whack it, plus you should be stronger so you'll be whacking it harder. You're still whacking it with the handle so you shouldn't be doing a whole lot to things and thus shouldn't be taking high level mobs with an inept weapon etc. but you shouldn't be limited to low level mobs either. Hopefully that made sense.

Ive a different question about skill leveling.
Hypothetical:
If Cret has an item that gives +mining. Putting him from inept to novice. When minning he raises a point in skill level. He removes his +item and lowers back in skill level.
Now the question is: does unwielding said item, before a leveling, reset the skill level %?
Ie: Takes 400 points to raise from inept to novice. You aquire 399 with the item attached. Will you return to o points or keep the 399 and be able to use another item to level that last point; once the +item is removed?
Note, I have no idea if this is the correct terms or figures, just using as an example.

As far as I believe your skill would be a base level. And that is what your training improves. The item that gives a bonus would only modify that base number, so if you improve, say from novice to (what ever comes next) while wearing/ using the item then take it off you should still be at that level. Becaue it is you improving. Taking off the item would just put you back where you belong, not further back. You would still have learned what you had learned. I hope that a. thats right and b. that it made sence.
In no way was I earlier saying that you should be limited to what you fight, just the opposite. To me it dosn't make sence to force me to fight a level 50 mob with a weapon I am still inept with. Now if I am fighting with a weapon I have mastered, sure there is no reason for me to gain anything from fighting something very far beneath me. But for picking up a new weapon I shouldn't be penalized by the fact that I am a higher level. I should be allowed to gain from fighting low level mobs with a new weapon I have just started training with.

So, if it dosent drop you lower and it say takes 500 tries to make it from
level A to level B. Being it takes 750 tries to get from level B to Level C.
Being at level B already with the item, you do 600 tries. Now when you remove the item you have 500+100. Would you lose the extra tries? Or would your level increase in the skill?
