[SPELL] Darkness

Post by Solaghar » Mon Feb 05, 2007 1:37 pm

This would be a good spell for evils and those who enjoy the darkness such as Sharrans, Maskarrans, Drow, etc... I know that somehow it's possible in the code to make an impenetrable darkness which no matter how many lights you have in the room, it can not be dispersed. Darkness would be a fairly low level priest and wizard spell both. Infravision allows one to make out specific creatures as per usual, but apart from that one is completely blind. A spell of true sight allows one to see as normal. Maybe a 2nd or 3rd level spell.

I think this, or a spell like it, already exists in the game. I know I've entered the same room as a, ah, "dark" character and despite my ten thousand (ok just three) magical lights I couldn't pierce the darkness of an otherwise light-able room. I don't know how that darkness was created, but can only assume it was cast as a spell, or ability. If it was an ability it wouldn't be too difficult to translate it over to spell, I imagine.

On this note I was curious to ask about drow innate abilities? I know all drow are given skills in Faerie fire but not globe of darkness. While only mages and clerics can use them. Also..in 3.5 even though we are a mix of 2.0 and 3.5 all drow are given levitation though commoners at a later level. I know not many people play drow but I love them especially if others get on to hang out and rp and such. But a way to easily fix the prob with their innate spells is ..why not do something like house insignias where you can use each innate ability once every 24 tics ie once every day?

On that note. A globe of darkness spell would rock!

Just like Darkvision for drow and dwarves who can actually see people in more detail than just infra?
I take only what I need and I need everything!

On the drow matter.. this has been discussed. The first problem is why 24 tics... there are more than one tic in an hour. But lets say we set it for 24 hours... why 24? If you can use it once a day then should I not be able to use it at 10pm and then at 4 am the next day? Also if it is a drow innate ability, why should it be on the insignias? Not all drow are noble and its not an ability solely for nobles.

Aye. I said 24 tics cause I am used to 24 tics being a complete day in other old muds I played before I came here. Thus I also stated..in 3.5 edition even commoner drows learned levitate but at a later time if not of noble blood. That's why I would suggest..perhaps commoners being able to get one later on in life but a commoners badge or something. but back to the spell..

I like it would be nice!
