Responsibility as training as a thief:

In our attempt to train our oh-so-hard to train skills as a thief/rogue/bungler
we have a series of steps we take as rogues to train. Not an ICly sort of method.

Fight mob to stun -
disarm
Steal everything from the mob
backstab mob

This trains multiple things at once:

fighting - disarm - steal - backstab

Also, this has been braught to my attention that it bypasses the auto_junk on mobs.

So, i post this here to get peoples Thoughts and ideas on it. So we can clarify rules and such.

On another note.. Ive seen this (havent done it msyelf): 2 rogues.. middle of nowhere. they each hold 5 items. So in a flurry of typing steal the items from the other: Lather, rince, repete.

This is clearly code abuse, and not something "we" should be doing.

ICly, you would learn nothing by stealing from an unconscious foe, and you probably wouldn't learn too much by backstabbing him either.

Now, stealing from each other is something I could potentially buy, but only with proper RP, and not as any repeated training.

I dunno. Two thieves who are arguing who's the better thief and they get into a thief off with one another in a field...

I mean, it's kinda a clever idea to solve things rather than killing one another. Who can end up with all the items in a bag before the other.

I can see how one would concider it abuse of code, buta t the same time, what a clever idea! Especially if you are both in the thieve's guild and are kinda buddies wanting to help one another get better. Do I say do it all the time.. no but it's a good little tool to do once or twice to kinda realize how the stealing function works.

Hmm. I have played multiple thiefs and never done that before at all. I tend to stay hidden and steal from npcs/pcs and then either fight them to the death..or..run like a wussy!

*You learn from your success and improve at running away screaming like a little girl* >.<

"Few could runaway like a wussy as good as you"

I think it would be a fun new feat!
:D

Help Wussy
--------------
This feat enables a person to flee with great success, causing one point of damage to your attacker for bursting their ear drums with your high pitched girly scream

I think both examples put forward by Cret are blatant examples of code abuse and should be dealt with appropriately. It is one thing, the example of a friendly stealing match as detailed by Mariela if RPed out(Ok, you start at the south gate and I'll start at the north gate... Start sneaking and in an hour, see who is the better thief! Watch your back... Mua ha) but it is a completely different thing standing in the middle of a field where no one will hear your yells of "XXX is a dirty thief!" as you spam steal back and forth.

I've always been wary of the thief classes(Not ICly but as a personal opinion), and have doubted their place in the game because of just so much OOC grief centered around them. This is just a personal opinion and you are entitled to disagree, but I think most will agree that many complaints center around thieves and the nature of thief skills just leaves so much open to abuse and OOC hostilities.(IE stealing from PC, logging off quickly; just stealing from a PC in general and they never see their item again) So I'm very thrilled that you brought this up, Cret, and commend you for it.

Disclaimer: this post is in no way whatsoever a movement to reduce thief skills or remove thieves or their skills out of the game. Just wanted to say that in case anyone took it the wrong way. :D

I myself love the thieves there can be ic and ooc grief caused by them and such. That is why it has been made rule and a good code of conduct if you steal from someone..that you have to wait 30 minutes irl time before you log off. That and it is also a good code of conduct to give them if the item is very important or rare..a chance to reclaim said item ie ransoming it or maybe taunting them and see if they can do it by force and such. I myself am not big on the stealing factor I love thieves for their stealthy parts. Like infiltration and such..if I had a choice between a different off shoot of rogue like scout or arcane trickster and the like. I would have definately gone for one of those..I mean I just love being able to sneak in spy and either use what Ilearn against them..or just use it to cause me a moments enjoyment! >< I am ranting. I am just saying training as a thief can blow big time..but being one is the most fun experiences. You have to use your head in rp situations instead of rumbling in like a clanking warrior or pray for aid like a cleric ..even whisk yourself away like a wizard. Thieves in game aren't that strong and we have to take it slow..and use our wits and such to get ourselves out ..that or die! I play table top any chance I can get..and love my rogue classes. I have played straight rogues and the like and at the moment they are one of the most versatile and stronger classes..to play! ...I go on so I shall end this here..

Rogues are fun and fullfillining!
