Handle Animal

Isn't making your animal smote a part of RP? Could it be set that you can make your animal smote without the skill?

Especially because :

You don't have enough experience to learn handle animal from a yourmom.
You are about a third of the way to your next level.

I just want to make my pet smote and it's like an effort and a half here. :P

I'd love to see handle animal made specificly in conjunction to mounts and henchmen mobs and not to pet mobiles like dogs, cats, mice and birds, mostly because they are just for rp more than for transit or protection.

Reducing the level at which you can learn the skill might be a simple temporary fix.

From what I have noticed, you do not need handle animal for henchmen (pets with a sentient race).

Though honestly, I feel that once you learn handle animal, the failure rate isn't really noticed by characters. It doesn't have any repurcussions for failure, so I believe most people just repeat the command until it succeeds (this could, of course, just be me, but I don't think it is). Other than the fact that you can't order an animal once you learn it, I don't see any use for the chance to fail for the skill.

The skill just has always seemed a bit... odd... to me.

Most people's first minion is a mount of somesort. And having read the cautionary notes all over about getting strikes for having a pet in an inapropriate area, you can't really afford to play out the failures in this skill when it means your horse will follow you into the armourer's shop and maybe earn you a strike. I got my first mount, a mule, before I learned animal handling, and it followed me forever and was a major IC hinderance. I wasnt able to stop it till it finally got tired and stopped on its own and I finally found a trainer.

Also, a large amount of the orders such as "remove saddlebags." "Give saddlebags" don't actually occur IC. No horse would or could remove its packs and hand them to a player. And they also wouldn't put equipment on, IC the player would be dressing/undressing them.

From an IC perspective the only real "orders" given are sit, stand, sleep, and eat the rest are all OOC actions performed by the player. And that I have seen, failed command don't even echo to other players, so no one knows how many attempts you made before the horse actually obeys.
