faith list

I think when a player is an enquirer of a faith, that if you type faith list you should be able to see who the fms are.

That's a valid suggestion and equally as useful as previous suggestions to add Faith Manager details to the Help Files.

I'm certainly not opposed to either as a means to get the information to a new hopeful.

With both, though, I do find myself wondering why it is not considered just as easy to gain the information ICly. And I'm not being clever or critical (What do you mean 'for once' ! :) ) That's a genuine question for those who find/have found themselves looking for the manager of their faith.

Why is it necessary to be told who to look out for in a Help File or on a list of characters when you could just as easily ask the next character you meet in the course of a conversation.

Is it possible that some faiths would not be open about who their faith managers are?

For instance, I cannot see anyone walking up and saying "I am Mask's FM, hi!"

I would imagine that faithing with one of the more reclusive faiths would involve finding who the FM is, or waiting for them to find you (and waiting is never fun, especially when you have no idea if they even know you exist).

Wouldn't that also be an argument for not listing/publicizing who the FMs of said faiths are? It would seem to give them an awful lot of exposure to enemies and the like.

Oh, I'm all for not listing them, except on an OOC manner (such as the help file).

And yes, that was from personal experience, my above post.

Hmm I think we need to step back and decide what the command enquire does then. My understanding is that your going to a member of a faith npc or not and announcing your interest in that faith. Wouldn't you say hey you should go to soandso and learn about our faith from them. Even with the knowledge of faith list as IC you dont know what they look like, you cant use tell to send them a message since you havent greeted them. I fail to see a con to this yet.

The thing I like about enquire is that it's sometimes difficult to find even an NPC of someone in the faith, so you seek out a regular PC to do it with - and surely -they- know who their FM is. It's as easy as that.

But I really like this idea, too. I'm all for IC findings out, but sometimes that's really just over the top difficult.. Not that everything should be easy (can you tell I'm indecisive today?), but this shouldn't be the hardest thing in the world.

I think finding FM's IC is a pretty important part of faith RP.
Even for Mask, which is one of the more reclusive faiths, it's not terribly difficult to find a Maskarran, learn from them, build some trust, and then get yourself introduced.
I'm not sure how the other Faiths are organized though...

Finding FM's ICly still has to happen, faith list just tells you who to look for. I do not see how hiding this information, improves roleplay opportunities nor do I see how giving out this information through faith list takes away roleplay opportunities.

Ah, I was confused then. That does sound perfectly reasonable.
