Divine task

Nearly ten years ago I was quested with the task of defeating a band of Malarites. There has been one problem through the years. They are deep deep within the Undermountain. Many escapades have taken myself, and other brave adventureers deep into that wretched mountain, but to no avail. I, Telnier Talmar, Ranger of the Misty Forest call all rangers, druids, and other protectors of the forest to come aid me in this task.

Dunno what's going on. I was on and it's now 38 mins past. I guess it's been cancelled or something but I've not heard anything. Anyhow, I'm probably not back on tonight. Good luck. If you reschedule for another date I would be happy to help out.

Due to recent discoveries, and hold backs. This event will be set to a later date. There are certain requirements to get that deep within the Undemrountain, and it seems Telnier fails to be able to overcome one of them. Therefore, in the future, if this problem is solved, then this event will commense, but if it is not, then I am sorry.

You have ruined my whole weekend! :(

Just kidding. ;) Is there anything we can do to help? Or is it a code/qbit issue?

I don't mind the scheduling of events on here among those already in play IC. I do have an issue with recruiting people to join you IC in an OOC forum like this. I am not shutting down the thread because I want to hear other imms weigh in. At this point, this is my opinion only.

I personally think it would have been better as a post, first. *shrug* I don't know, though. I figured that the 'events' section was also for things like this. I mean, if players can schedule weddings and balls, why not dungeon crawls?

I had always believed this forum was more or less for the planning of times for events in reference to the real world clock and not for recruiting. I think when I look at the first post I see this. So, I would suggest rather then commit characters here oocly to an ic rp, to just state if you will be available or unavailable for the time that the player has organized IF it is icly possible that you have a character involved or meet the specifications of the original post.

In that respect I am in complete agreement with Lathander. Always remember to read in depth the first post that outlines the event.

I'm not trying to be arguementative, but I'd like to point out a few things:
  • The IC in-world environment is, for the most part, free of OOC info such as websites. There are few items in game, like maps, that have websites, but that is for ease. There are some quests that require OOC explaination, but those are very few.

The use of the board in game is very, very IC. I can't remember a single post off the top of my head that had OOC info on it containing a web address. I have (I think), however, seen OOC disclaimers like 'Was written by someone else..' and the like.

Some people don't have access to telnet (such as Windows Vista users, from what I've seen thus far..) and require Marty's Fang client, which I read somewhere that you can't copy/paste from. So, even if the web address _was_ pasted there, it would be very troublesome to copy/paste. Especially when you'd have to write it by hand.
Here is how I feel about the three examples listed above:

From a personal point of view, I think it looks tacky to see a web address beyond necessity. I can deal with maps having them because that would be a real P.I.T.A. to try to ASCII something like that in-game.

I'm glad the posts are almost entirely IC information. I actually do read the board sometimes just out of pleasure. I like reading what people have been doing or what they're looking for.. things like that.

I would probably strangle someone before I would write all that out onto paper, then type it all out again into a browser. Especially if only to find out that I can't even attend because it's a time I am too preoccupied.

Lastly, time is valuable to everyone. So it is also convenience if we keep the option.

1) I have contacted all but two or three ICly about this event, and have done my best to keep it IC.

2) It was suggested that I post on the forums to get a larger response, because I have tried ten times to do this quest, and I have NEVER had enough people of the right classes show up.

3) This was planning. I posted times, I conteacted IC, and I asked people to PM me if they could, or wanted to join. The PM being because I wanted to keep it a little private in the way I did not hand out too much IC info to everyone on the boards. I set certain requirements, and kept what I could disclosed.

If you think that this thread was inappropriate I am sorry, I will not do it again. I posted it -trying- to get a faith quest done that was given to me ten months ago.

And now it is all out the window. Last night while playing, one of the requirements could not be met by my character, therefore, this event will not take place.

Thank you everyone that tried though, I appriciate it.

Part of the blame falls at our feet for not stating a clear enough policy regarding the events forum. My previous post reflects my personal viewpoint. Looking back, it would have been better for me to gather an imm consenus and state a policy, which may or may not differed from my origninal sentiment.

We'll discuss it and post something more official.
