Forum Upgrade

Post by Mask » Mon Mar 24, 2008 10:09 pm

Hi there,

I upgraded the forums to the latest version - it adds a significant new amount of functionality, some of which is quite exciting!

I hope you all enjoy it!

Cheers.

Agreed. Freaked me out when I first seen it.
I'll get used to it in a day or so :]

Yeah, I popped in and immediately let out quite an expression. So different and sudden!

But I like it. Now to just get used to it.

Hah. The Friends and Foes option is kind of amusing :)

Looks rather slick.

I think I shall like it. :) Thank you Mask!

Hey, speaking of avatars... going back a couple of forum upgrades ago we had random pic's we could choose from provided by the forum. Where did those go, and can we show them the way back, perhaps with a trail of bread crumbs or little pieces of candy? There was a pic of a follower of Talos which used to grace my avatar box and disappeared when the last upgrade(not this current one) came through.

Does your avatar box have any code in it? May just be a broken link that we can retrace to the original file.

All the forum-hosted avatar images went bye-bye with the transition to the new host, I'm afraid. A few (like Glim's) were pulled back out and dusted off, put on another server, and hosted from there. If anyone has an avatar image they would like to use, PM me and I can put it up on my host - unless Mask wants to host them all locally. (I was going to say email me, but the new forum hides emails...I guess that's good, reduces SPAM!)

If you don't understand what I just said, no worries...but hold tight until we work out the details, and I'll translate into English! :D

It is just me, or there is no difference in the forum symbols to indicate that there are new unread posts in it?

The icon should be red if there are unread posts in it.

I've got no real complaints, it's just hard for me to see the avatars and everything being on the right hand side which is the opposite of every other Forum I've ever been on. It's like a hodgepodge of trying to read japanese and american at once.. Maybe it's just an eyeflow issue where I'm used to seeing who posted what and then reading what they posted in a smooth right flowing motion, whereas this is looking to the left then back to the right and then reading in a right motion..

And now I just confused myself even more. My poor drug addled brain cannot handle such complicated things!

On a more serious note will there be any additions later on allowing us to change skin colors with personal preferences like on other types of forums? Maybe a prefab list to pick from, or colors based on Forgotten Realms Gods?

Ah ... right, it is. I'm partially colour-blind, which I guess is why it's kind of hard for me to spot.

A lot of the avatars are remnants from the previous forum system that was in place from 2003 to 2006. If no one changed them from the transition they will reappear in this new forum.

The upgraded forum doesn't like Safari on MacOS 10.5. Have to switch to a Mozilla browser to make things work right. Sadness.
