Request Flag for Quest Items

Hey there,

I'd like to propose a new flag for builders that would mark an item as a quest item. If an item had a [QUEST ITEM] flag, it would mean it was necessary in a quest and that means it could automatically be requested from an NPC if by accident you gave it to the wrong mob somewhere. Or something similar that would save the imms or whatever thieves out there some time when a player accidentally gives an item to the wrong mob.

Feedback is always welcome,
Thanks,

I really, really like this Glim.

I can only see two problems with it, though:

1: What if a Player sells it to a mob, then later requests it back on the same character?

2: What if a player sells it to a mob, then later someone else requests it from that mob for free instead of paying?

Assuming someone will say: "We'll just have the quest item keyed to that character, then."

Then my next question would be, "Well, what if you bought it from a vendor or other player?"

I think that would be more of an answer for the coders, but I could see it being made that if you sold the item it would remove the [QUEST ITEM] flag from it.

Hmm, yes, I'd like that..

I have in the past accidentally given my full bag of ore (or worse) to a mob. At one point, Selveem gave his pack with the bulk of his quest items in it and quest pieces (things required to finish quests). Then I was left unable to buy it back (if it wasn't a shopkeep or it was far too costly for me to afford.

I think, more so, I would like this as a temporary flag for all given items. Maybe has a timer on it. 30 mins max?

Either way, I support you, Glim.

Simple solutions:

-Make it that if you hand a quest item to a shopkeeper, the flag does not work. This usually abides since most quest items can be bought back easily.

-Forget about bags and packs full of quest items, for something like that you'd need to question or seek another solution. This is mainly about handing over individual quest items by mistake or handing them to a mob that cannot see you because of you or the room conditions.

Hm, <directed at Glim>

Are you talking, then, about items as part of a quest? Like 'deliver note to <person>' and giving it to the wrong person? To be able to request _that_ back?

Or, do you mean the actual quest rewards?

I mean quest items. I think Oghma was misunderstood here. Only the items needed to complete a quest would have the flag. In your example before with your bag of quest items, Selveem, because the bag wouldn't have a flag, just the items in it, you would still need to question or get assistance to retrieve it.

Thanks for the info.

I still agree that it'd be useful and a good idea. :)

I think this is a great idea, and addresses a common problem...but is there a reason that Selveem's more general timer idea wouldn't lick the ice cream cone even better? That is, when you give an object to an NPC, it is always set with a variable in your name; you can automatically request it back? That would save the Imms from ever having to deal with this very common (well, it used to be, for me, and I assume it still is, for most newer players who haven't been burned) problem?

After speaking with Glim, he brought up a good point: Not all quest mobs are set up properly to junk their inventory or purge the quest item received. I have seen this, too, in the past. I didn't report it because the items were so minor it'd take more time to fix than the issue really is worth.

It would take a lot of time to go through all the quests and make sure that during each step, the mob purged the item properly after that step of the quest was completed.

I think it would be great, but I agree with Glim: maybe baby steps are best.
