Crimes, Fines, and Confiscation Idea?

During a time when I had things confiscated an Idea struckme I dunno how it would be implemented, but what if you broke a crime and the guard up and took something very important from you? Why not make it so when a guard confiscates something it goes to them then from then it is mailed back to you sorta like Cash on Delivery where for each item taken it costs you depending on lvl X amount of coins? So if you got say a special item like your wedding ring or your weapon or what have you it is mailed back to you but the banker makes you pay for it via coins in your inventory. Those coins could be funneled back into the local economy. Perhaps putting a certain place in each town with it's own crime setup? That way you're items re saved and able to be reobtained and the economy for that area and or town is boosted? Input?

I like this idea. I think having items confiscated only encourages further crimes to get the items back. I think it could work that there would be a certain mob in the justice system to deal with this, so..

1. You commit X crime
2. You were dumb for committing the crime so you have ITEM confiscated, and ITEM is transferred to MOB
3. You get your initial grumbling over with, and you go to see the Mob.
4. The mob has a list of crimes, and certain crimes have certain prices. I know only certain crimes get things confiscated, but the mob would tell you that because you committed X crime, you have to pay THIS amount of coin to get ITEM back.
5. You pay the fine and your item is returned, or you resort to your bad people tactics.

I don't know all that much about coding, but this seems like a pretty workable thing to do. And it solves a lot of issues. Many many players get frustrated at having their things confiscated, and then having to resort to other means to get the item back. Coin could help the economy of the area. And I know many players worry about their items being lost if a crash happens. Maybe instead of the item going directly to the mob it could work that the item goes to a special crash safe room, and when the fine is paid the mob can go there to retrieve it. That would cut out on the option for people to resort to unseemly ways to get their items back, but I think most people would go with it, if they had the guarantee that their item was safe.

And maybe if after a certain time these rooms get too crowded with items (The items have been there for a REALLY long time with no attempt to claim them), the town in question could hold an rp auction event for the unclaimed items. Just something that could happen every so often.

Hmm You took my idea nad polished and cut it like a master gemcrafter! That wuld be very good and aye the auction could gather up the items from everywhere and hold the auction! Also sometimes when a pc commits a crime it's sometimes a sorta fluke of coding at times. But not always sometimes people are just crooks. The way you worded it would be very awesome and aye. Because sometimes they confiscate items that well sometimes they nab belt containers or packs and sometimes rp weapons that are from special rps and the like and you can't get them back less you steal it which I think containers is nigh impossible now. Or kill the mob in question wouldn't fit with most people's rp. Very well said Aveline

I had a related idea a long time ago when I first decided to build the Waterdeep dungeon... It always seems weird to me for prisoners to be sitting in the dungeon with swords and weapons in hand! But when I pursued the thought of disarming criminals the imms/coders told me that we couldn't do it because in the event of a crash or what not the items would be lost.

But thanks for bringing up the idea..
a couple thoughts...

What about a dwelling type area that, like Aveline mentioned, I think those are crash safe right? Would there be a way to do that, and have a guard be able to retrieve items when they are to be returned?

Another thought, and this one is a bit crazy...
Perhaps an additional slot on the character, make it invisible and unreachable by the character. So when a char gets arrested their weapons a confiscated items get placed there, and when they get released a mob would 'retrieve' their stuff. The stuff not permanently confiscated.

I like Kirkus' second idea the best, because it could be utilized in things like quests, and areas, where for whatever reason something is added or removed to a person mechanics wise. I could even see a spell where you could now 'banish' weapons for a round or something, but that's an aside.

The main point is the second would prevent a pile up of 'unclaimed' belongings in the confiscated area.
