Alchemy and Witch Light and invokers

I would suggest consideration of the Witch Light spell used in a major portion of alchemy rituals. Invokers are unable to cast the spell Witch Light are are seriously limiting their use of alchemy unless they have someone else make the balls of light for them. (Yes, I know one can hope that someone is online and in the right spot that can cast witch light..[which is rare for me]. and play it out.....but->)Light spells are traditional evocations, at least in 3.5 they are, and even before alchemy was around I thought it odd that the only light spell was a conjuration one. What I would suggest is a light spell (evocation- as it is in D&D) that could be cast upon brightstones to make them glow in a similar way. Putting aside alchemy use, a light spell of shorter duration than witch light would seem a reasonable addition to the spell lists, or perhaps a weak version of continual light that can be cast on objects but lasts for a duration instead of continuosly.

The helpfiles list witch light as more of a conjuration spell. What you could do is stockpile balls of light (They won't dissipate if you do not use them) and just pull one out when you need it? Just have someone make a bunch to order?

I think the goal of this was to have people work together, and form a type of conglomerate. Think of the Fighters, the Thieves, the Bards (to an extent), the Paladins...some might not have access to this spell, but are meant to rely on others - to work together and accomplish their goals. Just like some of the shards are in places that you would not ICly like to be by yourself (i.e. dangerous). Like Gwain said, there are ways to gather these things, you just have to be willing to work with others.

I was unaware that they don't get used up if they are in a pack. It would certainly make sense for my character to just order a bunch then. I like the idea of working together, I just wished that Invokers were in a better position of offer specialty services to that end. The only spell I know of in my spell list that has giving potential (off the top of my head) is the continual light spell. But since its so easy to find glowing objects its just more of a novelty. Anyway, thanks for the info the lights, Gwain.

You will find many a beginning character that will be forever indebted to you for the gift of light. Early on, if you don't know where to find a more permanent light source, dealing with darkness is a major obstacle!

Aye it's sorta like conjurers can summon witch lights while invokers can enchant ites to glow forever. This way they could do trade offs and rely on each other. Not being able to cast the spell is just a simple part of you choosing invoker. You lose all access to conjuration but your evocation spells will be more powerful in the end.

I know light is hard, especially one that frees your hand for spell casting.

Having to be led around in the dark by friendly elves. So embarrassing ;)

Yes, even for my character light was a major pain. Imagine a wizard that had to carry a torch around.... I would gladly offer to give continual light to people more often but it costs the caster something like 25 platinum in components. By the time people have that kind of money, they usually have a glowy thingy.
