Roleplay Characterizations
Your character may have instantly popped out of the character generator
on the game. However, for the sake of Roleplay your character must have a
history, preferably one which will at times influence his/her behavior.
Not every history has to be tragic or dramatic. Being a simple child from
a fishing village or farm might of itself be enough to bring interesting
roleplay in city settings or in situations he/she may never have encountered
before. Tragic backgrounds should make sense in the general setting of FKmud.
It is strongly recommended that you attempt to work out a background history
for your character while he/she is in the early stages of leveling, perhaps
before level 10. In this way, your character may interact with others with
consistency and cohesion.
Background is one part of developing a well rounded character. But another
facet of characterization which makes your character different from all
others will be his/her habits (both good and bad), peeves, and beliefs.
Habits can be anything from washing hands before eating to fingernail biting.
Perhaps when your warrior is nervous he/she takes out a blade and sharpens it
or cleans it. Perhaps he/she has a tendency to drink to much, or has bad manners
like burping, or interrupting others while they are talking. Perhaps your
character always closes the eyes of his/her victims, or perhaps he/she has
a fondness for the opposite sex, children, or animals. These things don't
have to be related to alignment. They are small things which give your
character depth and make them realistic. After all how many perfect people
do you really know? And wouldn't the world be a boring place if everyone
was perfect in age, looks, and habits? If such characterizations are played
with consistency it will give your character depth and personality.
