Briek Blackthorn, Tyr's Merciful Sword

Born in Tethyr during the Black Days, Briek Blackthorn was biologically sired
by Kortal Millstone and Alisande, once of the Blackthorn clan herself. Their
marriage of arrangement bore only one child: Briek himself.

Kortal was the Baron of Clovis Fields, a small fief in the principality of
the Crown Lands. Desperate to keep his standing and his lands, Kortal allied
himself with the nobles most directly responsible for the death of King
Alemendar. This made him an enemy of Alisande's closest kin, the King of
Caravans, Duke Llachior Blackthorn. The Duke wished his sister and nephew
sprited away, however, it was many years before such could come to fruition
and so the first years of Briek's life were spent in little more than
captivity.

At the age of eight, they were finally able to implement a plan to have
Alisande and Briek removed to Tordraken, Llachior's seat in Cape Velen.
Sadly, Alisande did not survive the escape; Kortal himself killed her while
she ensured her son's escape. This event deeply affected Briek and to this
day he will say it is his drive.

Briek spent his years growing into manhood at Tordraken with war waging all
around him; he and Llachior grew to be like father and son in this time.
Briek soon turned fourteen and came of age. The Reclamation Wars had an end
in sight and the rebel nobles were being gathered up and placed on trial.
Fearful that the name Briek was forced to bear would have others persecute
him, Llachior had no choice but to send him away, north, to Waterdeep: in the
hope that in years to come he might return when things were more stable.

Traveling with little money and only the clothes on his back, Briek reported
to the Font of Knowledge, an arrangement his uncle had made so that he might
see some tutledge there. Though it was long before he had to venture out,
when he did he came across the Tyrran temple and it was there a lady knight
of Tyr spotted him staring up at the gates and invited him inside. She
introduced herself as Dame Raona Corbin and asked the nature of his visit, to
which Briek expressed his desire for justice. It wasn't long before his path
glowed clear before him in his mind: he became a follower of Tyr and
requested to become Dame Raona's page and then paladin squire.

Two decades went past through trial, training and error before he earned his
spurs as a paladin of Tyr, along the way gaining great friendship with those
who mentored him, Dame Jaenoic, Dame Raona and Sir Harroghty prominent of
them.

Since taking on knighthood, Briek has been accepted into the Most Holy Order
of Tyr's Merciful Sword, taken on the training of a number of squires, and
now holds a seat on the Paladin Council created to assist in the training of
paladin squires.

He holds the rank of Hammer Lord within Tyr's church and has authority over
the temples and chapterhouses in the west of Faerun. He is also the current
High Knight of Tyr.
