Briony Verwelkitten was born to a poor family in Westgate. As an infant she
succumbed to a disease that killed most other children in the area. The
disease left her scarred, but she survived. Over the next few early years in
her life she would again fall prey to many diseases and illnesses. They would
leave their mark on her, disfiguring her and marring her voice, but always
when others would fall to these outbreaks, she would rise above and survive. 

Throughout her childhood, she was teased and tortured by other children for
the way she looked. As a result, as she grew older she became more and more
withdrawn from public and prone to responding to those who would tease her
with acts of cruelty. At the young age of sixteen she left her home and
devoted her life to the service of the Lady of Disease and Poison. Having
felt her touch so many times, and having always been spared, she had a deeper
understanding of Talona's ways than most would ever know.  

She served quietly is Poison's service for a number of years. Working quietly
towards secretive agendas. She worked closely for a few years with the then
Malagent Nyskall. After serving under him for a few years and his
disappearance she was left to her own devices. After a few more years in what
most people thought was spent in quiet solitude, she is rumored to have
brought a disease to the crops in Daggerford, just in time to ruin the
harvest. When the crops were saved, she is rumored to have retaliated by
brutally killing the High Druid of Chauntea responsible. Wilfred.  

These rumors, true or not, got her Lady's attention. And soon thereafter she
was named a Malagent of the faith where she led for many years.
