Paladin Squires
This file details the whole process of "page to paladin" and pertinent other agencies. The definitions here are sequential in appearance and importance to the process. What is a page? A page is a player character(PC) who meets the requirements specified in the "Paladin" help file and declares their willingness to serve a god as a paladin. They may or may not yet be a member of a church. What is a squire? A squire is a PC who has entered the formal, coded lessons necessary to become a paladin in Forgotten Kingdoms. In order for a page to become a squire they must be accepted into any eligible faith and be sponsored by a ranking member of their faith. A ranking member of a faith is defined as a PC who is either a member of the faith's Inner Circle or one of its Faith Managers. What is the "page to paladin" process? A page will begin their road to paladinhood by expressing their interest and joining an eligible faith. (Be sure to make sure that you have met both the basic eligibility requirements shown in help paladin and those for your desired school shown in paladin schools.) The page will become a squire shortly after joining a faith and enrolling in a school. A squire must esquire with any paladin or knight suitable for their chosen school in order to progress with their lessons but it does not have to be the same paladin during their entire tenure as squire. A squire may be an esquire to several paladins, but to only one at any time. A paladin may release a squire for any reason. A squire may quit serving a paladin if that paladin is absent from the game without notice for one real month's time, if the paladin plans to be absent for as long as two month's time (or longer), or they may lodge a complaint to the paladin council. Some examples of appropriate complaints made to the council are cruelty to the squire, irreconcilable differences between squire and paladin, or a consistant failure of the paladin to adequately mentor the squire. The complaints will be heard and decided upon, but they should not be made lightly or casually. Coded lessons will be completed no faster than one coded lesson per one real week. For example, the Halls of Justice school offers fifteen coded lessons and therefore this process will take at least 4 months to fully complete. Informal, uncoded lessons and role-play between coded lessons are as much a part of the process as anything else and will be observed by PCs and deities alike - so understand that this role-play is a commitment of time and effort. The squire PC who has completed all of the formal, coded lessons will now have no less than a one month (real world time) evaluation prior to being made a paladin. During this period the squire will serve as esquire to a paladin. At the end of this period, the mentoring paladin may apply to the squire's Faith Manager (or to any appointed member of the Inner Circle if the Faith Manager is not available) for the squire to be made a paladin. This cannot happen without the consent of the squire's Faith Manager or a member of the faith's Inner Circle in the Faith Manager's absence.
