Forgotten Kingdoms is not a "Player Killing" MUD. The focus here is on
roleplay, NOT on demonstrating that your character is the baddest and
strongest in all the Realms. Killing other players (player killing, pkilling,
or pk) is permissible in Forgotten Kingdoms, but ONLY as part of a detailed,
non-homicidal, credible roleplay. The following rules and guidelines apply,
and will be strictly enforced:
* All player killing must be in character, and there must be a very good
reason for it. Any rampant pkilling just to put notches on a character's belt
will be frowned upon and, if necessary, action by the gods will be taken.
Homicidal players or characters will not be tolerated: it is NOT acceptable
to make it your character's idiom to simply kill characters that they know
nothing about, or without appropriate roleplay.
* A character may initiate a player killing attack (pk or pkilling) using the
murder command once they reach level 10. You can become the victim of a
player killing at any level, however: a level 50 character can kill a level 1
character if the roleplay is right. So, young 'uns, watch how much cheek you
offer those you encounter! If it is in character for them to shut you up
permanently, they just might. If your character richly deserved it, don't
expect sympathy! IC actions have IC consequences in Forgotten Kingdoms!
* All attacks against a player character should be both role played and
responsible. Being responsible means that you do not attack a mage five
levels below you who is sleeping just because he is there, even if you are an
evil character. Before typing murder, all characters are expected to engage
in some sort of role play with their target, even if this only includes a
taunt or threat. This gives a target the chance to avoid engaging in pkill if
they so desire and if it is within their characters persona to do so. If a
killer or victim feels that their opponent is not role playing properly
(fleeing what should be a battle to the death, attacking for no reason, etc.)
they should immediately use the ask channel to request help with the
situation. A judgment on the situation, if warranted, may not be arrived at
immediately, but it is best discussed when everyone is present. If there is
nobody available to answer your ask request, please submit a post to the
Complaints forum detailing the situation, ideally with a log. See "Contact
email addresses".
* Only characters are allowed to kill other characters. You may not exclude
your character from the fight and have your minions or charmees do the dirty
work. If you wish to attack another character, it must be done with the
murder command, issued by your PC: not via an order to anyone else.
* Players are encouraged to use killmode stun and killmode nofight in any
player kill and to use as many smotes and taunts as possible. A playerkill
that is found to have insufficient roleplay will most likely lead to the
character involved getting a strike.
Reasons for an in-character player kill vary. It may have to do with the
organisations that the characters are in, e.g., a member of the Zhentarim
attacking a Harper; or it can be to do with the general fight between good
and evil, e.g., a paladin challenging a drow thief for his evil actions; or
it could be due to race, e.g., a drow attacking one of its fair skinned
cousins, an elf ; or it could be due to the fact that you have encountered a
follower of your own god's natural enemy, e.g., A follower of Tyr dealing
with a thief of the god Mask. The reasons are many and varied but they
have to be good reasons and always in-character and usually include involved
roleplay before and after the fight.
* There are restrictions on what you can take from the corpse of a fallen
foe. Please see help loot. A desire to obtain something owned by another
character is a plausibly acceptable reason for a murder, but the desire must
be very specific: you must know exactly what it is you are after, and say so
explicitly in the roleplay leading up to the pkill. This gives your opponent
the opportunity to hand over the object in question, if they deem it
consistent with their own roleplay.
* There are a LOT of important details that are not covered in this helpfile.
The entire PK policy is too long to readily read in this format. Please
consult the Official PK FAQ in the forums, at

initiating a player vs. player conflict, or complaining about one.
