Re: Better Language Scrambling?
Something for the longer term (hoping not to hijack this thread): once Lisira's dictionary is in, I could generate lists of nonsense words that look "elvish", "orcish", etc. These could be substituted in for uncommon words, instead of just scrambling them. For example, instead o...

Re: Better Language Scrambling?
Wow, I think manually writing a dictionary is too awesome an undertaking. What if we were just to get a bunch of FR novels and run them all through a program which would just count the number of instances of each word in each book and use that as a commonality indicator based on firing them into a ...

LOOK Order of Execution and Word Shortening
Most of the time, I'll want to look at something I'm wearing before something I'm carrying (to check item damage, etc.), and keywords go a long way to help differentiate different objects in a room. For the most part, this system really well. However, wearing a SIGNet ring prevents me from looking a...

Re: Better Language Scrambling?
I had some ugly distractions this weekend, but I'm a little ways through this and making decent progress. I tried looking for a comparable list for modern English (i.e. "how common words are"), but there's nothing out there that's comprehensive enough, even for a short dictionary. So, I'm ...

Re: Forum Troubles
Nearraba is right about the forum really hating Word. If you want to draft something before you copy it into the forum post, then always use Notepad instead. That doesn't have the same hidden characters that Word does. It's not that; I write all of my posts in the inline editor. The forum just real...

Forum Troubles
Whenever I try to post to some boards (namely, Game Suggestions; I haven't tried spamming test posts on the others), I receive a server error upon pressing "Submit," and my posts won't go through. This is consistent and persistent behaviour that's been going on for two or three days now (i...

Re: Bank Deposits
Its never been taken, mostly because its been claimed to be too modern. Though interest rates are a very old idea in practice. It is an old idea, but again, banks have only ever offered interest when they in turn earn their own interest on outstanding loans. Loaning money is a far older practice th...

Re: Bank Deposits
I'd like to say that I've never had a problem with the bank taking a cut of my money, even from the first platinum I deposited. I hate carrying coin on me (OOC; IC, I just find it unnecessary), and the only real difference between a private economy and a public one (in the MUD sense, i.e. player-run...

Re: Bankers will not exchange 1 electrum
Not against the rules, per se, I just meant that if you take the bank teller's dialogue literally (and haven't read help banks), there's no indication that it's at all possible.Harroghty wrote:How do you read it as being against the rules?

Quick Newbie Question
Do silent objects/"lookables" (things players can look at which are in the roomdesc, not the objects list, e.g. the signs above shop doors) require their own VNUMs, or are they folded into the room itself? I was going to offer myself up as a softie-for-hire, but wanted first to make sure m...

Re: Bankers will not exchange 1 electrum
I hate adding to the workload, but if you do make it so that banks exchange 1 electum, please remember to update help banks to reflect this. Currently 2 electrum can be exchanged for 10 silver, which is documented in helpfile but, as Trillarel pointed out, absent from bank tellers' dialogue (and act...

Re: The Think Channel
In my experience with other MUDs, think usually isn't as effective as it sounds. Unless psionics are introduced for other players to listen in (and, even then, how many people are going to spam think on the off chance that there's a telepath listening in?), imms generally don't have the time to ghos...

Re: additional wearloc: across the shoulders (across)
I'll second this, with the game-balance-friendly suggestion that the wearlocs might be more restrictive. Players might still only see "<worn on body>" for all three or four slots, but wear permissions might be organized by: <cloth under armour> <armour> <cloth over armour> <worn on back> W...
