Re: Player Status
Hello everyone!
Recent events have led to the realization that for various reasons I'm in need of a time-out from FK.
It's been nice being back and seeing all the great additions to the game! It's exciting to see how it keeps growing year after year, and to see the new people coming still.
I don't know how long I'll be gone. My present situation in life isn't really suited for a serious engagement in role-playing games, and I'm moving into a phase even less suitable.
Thanks for everything. I will you all the best in life!

We look forward to welcoming you back some day. Best of luck.

Due to real world experiences, it does not look like I will be making a return anytime soon. It has been swell and I intend on returning one day in the future. But between new love, work, and no home. I have no room for FK

New love is over rated! Old love, now THAT is something!

Stay safe and enjoy yourself, brother. See you soon.

Re: Player Status
Hey folks,
I'm not actually back, but I wanted to pop in and say that I survived boot. Graduation was today, thank the gods. I am very happy to be done, and never have to do that again. Next up is AIT up at Ft Lee, then on to Airborne. I may or may not be about at AIT; only time will tell.

Re: Player Status
I realized I haven't been playing much recently. Maybe some of you noticed that too. Well, unfortunately I don't think that will change soon since work and other stuff keep me pretty busy. However if you need me/want to play with me: just send me a pm and I'll make arrangements.
Re: Player Status
Hey everyone,
Sorry for dropping off the grid. As a few people know, my life pretty much fell apart last summer. But I'm doing alright now (apart from having no money and living in a small room in a shared student house, ha). I don't have much free time so I doubt I will be able to devote the same amount of time and energy to FK that I did at the beginning, but I might try and pop in now and again. Looks like lots of changes have been made over the past year.

Re: Player Status
Save for a few scattered hours here and there, I haven't really been on FK for quite some time now... have been moving house etc and generally just having a lot of my free time taken up with other things. However, on the offchance that anyone needs Yvonne for anything, do just send me a PM.
Keep on having fun you lot, and I look forward to (eventually!) experiencing some of the changes that have been happening lately thanks to the awesome behind-the-scenes team.

Hey there,
Tentatively...I'll be around more often Especially as my anual big excavation was cancelled *sad* No skellies for me So expect to see me around more often till September's fieldwork and vacations and then hopefully the rest of the year *muffled protest of tied up and muted graduation paper in one corner*
Cheerio!

Re: Player Status
Well, due to recent events, and a feeling of dead-ended RP, partially because of rumors of system changes, I think I'm going to be taking an indefinite break from FK. I could make a new character, but as someone pointed out to me, I'm too focused on mechanics right now, and not enough on the RP.
While ultimately, the blame for this lies within myself, for allowing it to be so, I will also say that I feel that this is in part because of a majority mindset that I've encountered, in that PvP combat is the goal, and not a last resort. As such, everyone tends to try to make the strongest characters they can, so that they can be the bully, and not be bullied. Myself included.
I find this to be an incredibly sad thing. FK is a game with a rich and engaging RP environment. Conflict RP doesn't /always/ have to lead to PvP, though I admit it should be an option. In MMOs these days, PvP seems to be the overwhelming goal as well, and sadly, I see that influence, as much as a "Do it for me" mentality creeping in here. In the last couple weeks, I've seen some outrageous things happen, that I cannot wrap my mind around the IC justification of, over items.
I will also admitt to my part in the fault of thinking I could manage to play a class commonly regarded to as 'broken'. In most things, FK does a good job of balancing the classes, as per SRD. Thieves, however, /do/ need a lot of work. But part of this also lies within policy. It is patently unfair that fighters get lots of attacks, clerics can heal, and wizards can throw spells, but thieves can't sneak attack. I would say that the policy of 'there must be enough RP' would be fine and fair, except for the fact that I have seen people metagame in abhorrent ways in order to win in PvP. The only advantage that thieves have is planning, and surprise.
As I told someone else recently, thieves should not, in any way shape or form, be able to walk up to a fighter, poke them in the chest, and expect to walk away unscathed. That's just daft.
Nor should a thief expect to face a fighter, and be attacked first, and expect to win.
But what should give a fighter pause, before attacking the thief, is the idea that the thief will run away, stalk him, and find him in his room at the Inn next week, or next month. Or maybe when he's off fighting a mobile, or whatever. Essentially, when his pants are down.
But that's not the way things work around here. I understand it, and I understand why, but I think there needs to be some other solution or fix. Game balance means equilibrium, not, 'all classes except that one over there'.
And perhaps some things are being done to fix them. I don't know. All I know is, I'm tired of ICly and OOCly being treated like a punching bag. I've done as much running away as I'm willing to ICly, so I guess now I'm doing so OOCly.
I wish all of you who remain here the best. There are a lot of bright people, and great RPers around. But please, for the sake of the game, remember that it's an RP Mandatory and PvP Restricted game. Don't make -every- RP about figuring out how you can bait the other person into PvP.
It just makes it look like you've got a small epeen. Jus' sayin.
