Farewells

Post by Tarven » Tue Sep 04, 2012 1:12 am

I wish to express a complaint for having a comic which was posted removed by a staff person on the grounds of it being "Political or religious" in nature.

The post in question was a certain comic*

That comic strip is about 30 years old, possibly more, and was posted under the heading of 'Funny ol' comic'. I think that's what it is. A funny old comic indicative of a time when there was a large social bias against DnD and its players. Something that many of us, especially those of us who played table-top DnD in high school, might find humorous.

In addition, another post was overlooked:

the topic of which is 'Fictional racism'. This comic features very real and very pertinent present day issues of a political nature. Issues which I don't find to be humorous, but very real problems with our society.

Furthermore, the staff person who is chastising me for posting about 'religious or political issues' posted this:

Harroghty wrote:Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans. Enjoy today, but take time to be grateful also to those patriots who lost so much for the sake of your (now diminishing) individual liberties while in battle with the most professional, feared army of their day.
A sentiment which I think has a highly political nature.

If the forums are going to have a policy of not posting political or religious content, I think that it should be enforced unilaterally, and fairly, and not done by someone who has a known conservative bias. I'm very surprised at Harroghty's behavior in this, as he is usually well known for being fair and equitable. When I attempted to voice my objections to the removal of his post with him, first, his response was "Thanks for your concern."

Clearly it is a problem whenever a player decides to leave the game on account of the actions of a staff member. This is my mistake and I could have handled this better probably. No one directed me to write this and I would like to think that I still have Mask's confidence as a staff member, but I can admit when I could have handled something better.

Tarven: I'm sorry that you decided to leave the game over this issue and I hope that you move on to bigger and better things if you remain resolved in your decision.

Eh, I'm a wishy-washy sonova*cough*. I've decided to stay off the game port for a while, but a couple people have expressed their desire to have me help out behind the scenes, and also (somewhat to my surprise) to keep adding my opinions to the forums. One person actually told me they like my 'devil's advocate style' (more or less).

So, yeah. When I wrote the original post to this, I hadn't slept in more than a 3 hour block for about a week. Season changes always seem to screw me up. Doc gave me some killer sleeping meds though, so I'm feeling better a bit better, but I still think it's best if I just avoid the game port for a while. In the meantime, I'll poke my nose in the forums, and maybe work on a zone or something. This is a great game, and a.. well, a family like community. Everyone might not get along with everyone, but what would it be without ol' Uncle Tarven for everyone to come together in loathing? =P
