I suggest that the Thann quest log in Waterdeep be expanded.
redacted
It is one thing when it's a character not knowing Common fails at it, and it's another when my character has Common at grandmaster and has average intelligence (the name is not that long or difficult for an average Realmsian to master).
Thann quest in Waterdeep - expand quest log
Re: Thann quest in Waterdeep - expand quest log
I'm not saying yay or nay to expanding the qlog, however I'd like to point out the following:
You were given the poison's name IC. Thus you do not need OOC means to get the answer. It was given to you. IC. Taking notes of what is said to you is not 'ooc means', as it was said to YOU IC.
He does not require a random string of letters. He requires a name of something which you were given clearly and exactly.
If your character cannot speak common and he does a quest that the mobs speak common in, this is not because of the code. It would be as if you went to a country that speaks one language and could not understand them, but tried to help. That is ignorance on the behalf of the person trying to help, not the person simply speaking the tongue they are known to speak. A dwarf bad at common would be well aware that in Waterdeep, they speak common.
TL;DR
While I am neutral about including more in the log, it's not the code's fault if you cannot complete a quest for the reasons listed. A suggestion is a good idea, but using the basis of player error as a reason to change it is less likely to incline motivation than a sincere issue.

Beshaba potatoes.
Re: Thann quest in Waterdeep - expand quest log
The quest is one of the older quests in Waterdeep and the mud (Probably one of the oldest surviving original quests in entirety. Its actually built on a unique timer that allows it to reset for characters after a certain period of time. The reasoning behind that is that its a quest most new players usually encounter shortly after starting the mud, so they would either put it off or forget about it. So in most cases it will reset. I can't however confirm how long this takes or if it does still occur. This quest predates the qlog by at least five years.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

I'm not complaining about my dwarf alt. I'm complaining about my elven alt, who has Common at grandmaster and average Intelligence and thus shouldn't mix up the name ICly.
If the quest is that old, surely the log could be changed...? I will repeat - I want a change to this specific quest where a specific string of letters is expected and not a similar change to other quests, where information can be easily remembered without taking notes.

Re: Thann quest in Waterdeep - expand quest log
Coming from someone who has plenty of problems on the forums, keeping my temper under control, I'm going to suggest that maybe people try to be less demanding, and less rude, in their posts. When someone offers answers, you should accept them kindly with thanks.
Someone might also consider the fact that Gwain has pointed out this is a very old quest. That means that a large number of people have probably managed to complete it. That means it's very doable, as is. That means it doesn't need to be changed just to suit one person's lack of desire for personal accountability.

In addition, this post shows some very direct quest information, and is thus likely in violation of something or other.
Re: Thann quest in Waterdeep - expand quest log
I tend to be pretty descriptive with my QLOGs. They include a lot of detail generally. Still, I apply the common sense test to something like this. People have been figuring this quest out for years (many years) without being spoon fed the information by their quest log. I do not see a reason to change this QLOG.
Tarven makes a good point. Be careful what information you post in a public forum about the details of the quest.
