Attacking flying mobs

Post by Ceir » Tue Nov 06, 2012 12:20 am

So, I decided to start a fight with a harpy, shooting a couple of magic missiles at it. I was surprised when it didn't immediately fly in to kill me, but didn't hesitate in making the most of it. No matter how many spells and/or bolts I shoot at them, they will not move into the room and attack if I'm in the plains while shooting at them. This seems like unintended behavior.

This is because the harpy is flagged ACT_NOWANDER (does not leave the sector type that it is loaded into). You are in the plains; it is in the hills or mountains and therefore it will not leave those hills to chase you into the plains. Yes, it's a point that you could exploit. It's not a big deal if it happens, but it's the kind of thing that would be code abuse if you were to consistently take advantage of that fact.

Thanks for bringing it up.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. I'll avoid doing so. (though it reminds me of glory days long long since passed in Ragnarok Online...)
